French winemakers hit by US tariffs imposed in a transatlantic trade war over airplane subsidies on Tuesday demanded help from their government and European planemaker Airbus.

French wine exports to the US have plunged since President Donald Trump in October imposed 25 percent tariffs on a range of European delicacies in retaliation for EU subsidies of Airbus, arch-rival of America’s Boeing.

The French finance ministry last week announced that wine exports to the US — the second-biggest export market for French wines after Germany — had fallen by 44 percent in value from October to November.

On Tuesday, the vice-president of France’s Federation of Wine and Spirits Exporters, Louis-Fabrice Latour, said exporters were seeking €300 million in compensation. …

Always the little guy gets screwed in a trade war. I'm sorry French wine producers are suffering because the EU is trying to flex their economic muscles.

I hope the wine producers focus their anger on the EU for playing stupid games.

Frexit anyone?

America has some excellent wine. Well, not like the French Whine, but excellent wine, nonetheless.

Europe is toast. Wine is a secondary or derivative spend. Been drinking Daou cabernet from Paso Robles for the past two years. Only time I miss the French is during Beaujolais nouveau, which kicks off the holiday season.

Britain better stand strong, because they were right to divorce themselves from dying economies. Britain’s sparkling wine are every bit as good as Champagne, with the exception of some vintage chateaus.

Germany’s Mittelstand is dying.

There have been many taste tests.

At the $20 range, few people can differentiate a $100 or more vintage bottle of wine.

If wine connoisseurs want to spend money on expensive wines they're largely paying for bragging rights and that's ok.

Yes, it’s true. The little guy has been getting screwed by the EU for a LONG time. But the French gov’t is completely callous. How long have the gilets jaunes protests been going on? Didn’t Macron threaten them?

Makes sense to me. If politicians can take money from taxpayers and give it to Airbus, they can take money from taxpayers and give it to Big Wine. Problem solved. Hallelujah.

I wonder if taxpayers will ever catch on that they are being bribed with their own money.

Nahhhhh.
