The Arabs are giving up on the Palestinians, and the Palestinian Authority knows it

Love him or loathe him, U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace proposal for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has formalized a seismic shift in Mideast geopolitics; one that has been roiling and brewing since 2009.

The so-called “Obama doctrine” in the Middle East was intended to re-calibrate American influence in the region, and its key strategy seemed to be to fete and kowtow to Iran, in the belief that “respect” would moderate the murderous mullahs.

It did not. The mullahs grinned, Secretary Kerry bowed and scraped, and Iran continued to foment war with its proxies and maintain its distinction as the pre-eminent financier of global terrorism, all while crushing domestic civil dissent. That, and Obama’s failure to enforce his infamous “red line” threat against Syria for attacking its own citizens with chemical weapons in 2013, destroyed American credibility among its traditional Middle Eastern allies.

Trump, on the other hand, gets stuff done. Syria deploys chemical weapons? He responds militarily. Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, mastermind of Iranian attacks on Jews and Americans around the world, becomes careless with his comings and goings? He is taken out in a clean drone strike.

The Middle East is a very tough neighbourhood, one where “progressive” platitudes and gender equality are not high on the issue matrix. Trump is seen as a decisive, effective leader. Furthermore, his administration understands and supports the paramount regional concern: Iranian hegemony and militarism.

Trump’s “deal of the century” is a starting point, not an ending. It articulates baseline principles to be adhered to in direct negotiations between the parties — the Israelis and Palestinians. Seventy years after the founding of the state of Israel, it should not be wildly controversial for the Palestinian leadership to accept and recognize the existence and legitimacy of the Jewish state.

True, and the actual borders of the land given to them by God are outlined in the Bible

So true! Women and children of the A-rabs are simply a means to an end...cannon fodder, convenient cover when being fired upon, more mouths to scream hatred from, etc. Jewish women and children are cherished. Jewish men are enjoined by the Torah to treat their wives BETTER than themselves. Children are blessed by the father every Friday night and before some holidays, mostly to live a peaceful Torah-true life. Notice the word "live"--not "martyr".

Boys' blessings start out with "May you be like Ephraim and Menashe". Why these two brothers? First, these two brothers lived in harmony for their entire lives. Second, despite living among the ancient Egyptians and their numerous deities, they remained true to G-d. The blessing continues:

May G-d bless you and protect you.

May G-d show you favor and be gracious to you.

May G-d show you kindness and grant you peace.

The blessing over girls starts out "May you be like Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah", the Matriarchs. These were the mothers of the Jewish people and responsible for imprinting upon them their religious and personal responsibilities, toward G-d and between one another, molding the character of a nation. The remainder of the blessing after this introductory phrase is the same as for boys.

Please note that "peace" and "kindness" is wished for the Jewish kids by their parents. Not "hate" and "blow up real good".

My Rough Outline for a New Israeli-Palestinian Peace Agreement [from May 2018]:

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3656080/posts

My proposal requires ratification by popular referendum by both Palestinians and Israelis. It goes nowhere unless both ordinary Palestinians and Israelis say it does.

“Israel and Palestine will solve this on their own.”

Trump, the man of peace, realizes quite rightly that the US must help them along as they will happily quibble over grains of sand.

Good meals and good arguments are the high points of Middle Eastern life.

The term “Palestinian” has about the same significance as referring to certain Americans as “Southwesterners” (which is composed of whatever racial/religious/regional divisions you want to use to make a point).

There are Arabs who live in the Palestine region. They make up 21% of the population that lives in the region that includes Israel, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and parts of western Jordan.

There are Jews that live in the Palestine region. They make up 75% of the population in the region. So if you are referring to a “Palestinian”, there is a 75% chance that you are referring to a Jew.

To infer that a Palestinian is specifically an Arab, and not a Jew, is incorrect.

LOL! Well let me know how that works out. If the Palestinians have not agreed to past plans that offer them more then why should you expect them to agree to this plan which offers them much less?

Trump's going to make it happen...

The US plan just acknowledges the reality on the ground. The region just isn’t the same as it was in 1948 or even 2000, when Arafart rejected a much better deal and chose to go to war.

Anecdotally, I have heard that Palestinians are kinda considered (along with Somalis) to be the trailer trash of Islam - deadbeats, complainers, malcontents, etc.

Much of the Arab world has paid some lip service and money to the Palestinian cause - but all in all, I got the feeling that they wouldn’t be upset if the Palestinians went away and got on with their lives.

The Arab countries have given the Palestinians billions of dollars and it disappears into Swiss bank accounts and never gets to help the people. The other Arabs are tired of wasting money.....................

Then let reality be reality and let's stay out of that impossible situation. We haven't brokered peace in the last 50 years and there's zero chance of accomplishing it in the next 50.

Fear is a great motivator. Fear of Iran.

True. And on our side is fear of Trump. He's not playing the fool over there and everyone knows it. Trump and his team aren't selling out our country of 'high speaking fees' in the Arab world.

Abba Eban is quoted as saying, "The Palestinians never miss an opportunity - to miss an opportunity."
