The National Health Commission announced February 7 that total infections in China spiked to 31,161 with new infections as of Friday reaching 3,143. Of that, 636 died with new death count at 73 and 4,800 were in dire condition.
[...]
the Chinese government told Wuhan authorities to gather all infected people in mass quarantine camps. As part of the measures, Chinese investigators will go to each home to check temperatures of each resident.
[...]
The mass quarantine camps, also called module hospitals, are for people who are exhibiting mild symptoms and those without prior respiratory diseases. The challenge for these quarantines is that it does not have proper medical facilities as opposed to patients staying at hospitals.

Something else remarkable. When this browser accessed their website, there were eight scripts and no trackers. Pretty clean and good format without allowing any scripts.

Also what is alarming is that there may be only 1 FDA agent assigned to 10 factories/labs.

Yes, China could shut off the supply in a crisis with the US.

And what about the Chinese quality control? They could really mess with the ingredients if they wanted to...or haven’t already.

“Made in USA” is the only good solution.

Considering China’s record in reporting things and the apparent frenetic activity in Hu Pei, it is prety certain that the spread is far faster and the deaths far more numerous than the official numbers. To start with the reported numbers count the people who die in hospitals and are diagnosed with the corona virus. Many are simply wwritten up as cause of death-pneumonia, and not counted.

Supplies will be very very low wherever the virus breaks out.

That we rely on China for 80% of our antibiotics is insane.

It’s a huge effort but the party wants this to end and end now.

I followed the links to the NYT story that said,
“The fatality rate in Wuhan is 4.1 percent and 2.8 percent in Hubei, compared to 0.17 percent elsewhere in mainland China.”

Which brings the $64,000 question: why is it 20x higher in Wuhan? Were only old people or only poor people left after the mayor gave a week’s notice of quarantine?

and from a Guardian article - why is Xiaogan, giving Wuhan a run for its money?

quote from the guardian: “The Chinese city of Xiaogan, around 70km north-west of Wuhan in Hubei province, has become only the second city in China (after Wuhan) to record more than 2,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus.”

quote from Al-Jazerra: “We already ran out of protective suits a few days ago, and now we are using disposable raincoats to offer minimum protection,” a doctor at Xiaogan First People’s hospital in Hubei, who preferred not to be named, told Al Jazeera.”

Both have been under increasing quarantine for just under a month, and 15 days of total lockdown. Are these new cases a result of lockdown with family? or same apartment buildings? what do these two towns have in common?

The death rate is higher, where more people have had the disease for a couple of weeks.

This death toll number is fantasy.

They are burning bodies, going around with vans and picking people up, going door to door with thermometers, etc

"The challenge for these quarantines is that it does not have proper medical facilities as opposed to patients staying at hospitals."

In any non-communist country, this would be called a death camp.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Maybe just the closest real city (thus closer conditions for infection) that the original residents ran to?

This is what got’s me so freaked out. IF it’s a relatively harmless thing then why is the Chinese government reacting so strongly?

"In any non-communist country, this would be called a death camp."

About how many beds per person do we have on average in the States? I see one mostly rural area with roughly 200 beds per 200,000--one per 1,000 people, maybe. Some larger cities might appear to be better equipped, except that they also serve vast rural areas.

Outrageous medical costs have shunted many people away from bothering with doctors and hospitals--even some with visible cancerous lesions and obvious conditions indicating heart disease. Many of those who are insured and using the system are hospitalized or otherwise treated for problems from drug abuse and promiscuity.

I guess we can say they’re just paranoid FReepers, and keep driving our Teslas like nothing is going on...or we can PREPARE.

“If you need anything made in China, it might be best to order before prices increase much. Some kinds of products are all made there regardless of brand name.”

Don’t forget Chinese content, even circuit devices as simple as a resistor can shut down a production line. If there’s anything good that’s going to come out of this, it will be surprised and SHOCKED this country will be when our dependency on China is finally realized.

What makes you think its relatively harmless? Have you been reading the horrific accounts about how the infected have been dying? The patients who are barely symptomatic whose lungs have turned to swiss cheese? Those who get “cured” only to get sick again? I don’t know, I’m a natural worrier, but I think people are in serious denial about the situation.
