Several posters today have been criticizing Mitt Romney by simply saying Mormon* or something similar, as if that explains it all. Im sure that every religion has someone who has done something foolish, but somehow, their religion is never mentioned. To help everyone understand that it is not Romneys religion that is making him act like a buffoon, Ive compiled a brief list of people that have helped make America great who were either raised Mormon or became Mormon. (In alphabetical order by last name.)
Gutzon Borglum: Carved Mt. Rushmore
John Moses Browning: Created the Colt M1911 pistol among many other firearms.
Clayton Christensen: Author of The Innovators Dilemma called the most influential business idea of the early 21st Century.
Stephen R. Covey: Author The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Henry Eyring: Chemist, Developed the Transition State Theory used by others to make Nobel Prize-winning discoveries.
Philo Farnsworth: Inventor of Television.
Harvey Fletcher: Inventor of Stereophonic Sound.
James Fletcher: Head of NASA during development of the space shuttle.
Gladys Knight: Singer.
Don Lind: Astronaut.
Ed Big Daddy Roth: Rat Fink car designer.
Brent Scowcroft: National Security Advisor.
Also, Eleven Medal of Honor recipients were LDS.
*Proper name: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Several others have also referred to his underwear. Heres a piece that explains that a little better.

Thanks for reading.
Yes, but if a solid non-Mormon conservative ran for senator from Utah, the Utahns would vote for the Mormon RINO over the conservative.
That they would. They have some ridiculous “prophecy” that a mormon will be the last president before the LORD returns, or some such nonsense. They really thought they were going to see that happen when mitt ran for president. I don’t have anything against mormons, per se; some of the nicest people I’ve known were Mormons, but their religion is scary blasphemous. And weird -— almost scientology weird.
Thanks. I added a few more musings in post 55.
El..short for elcid
(That’s why it’s called “Ziontology”)
Mike Lee just the other day, gave Romney high praise for being wonderful -—”Mitt Romney is a good friend and an excellent Senator. We have disagreed about a lot in this trial. But he has my respect for the thoughtfulness, integrity, and guts he has shown throughout this process. Utah and the Senate are lucky to have him, Lee tweeted.
Mike Lee does NOT always vote conservatively; I can’t say I completely trust him.
And how many Catholic mass murderers are there, or Protestant? Jewish? Muslim? Hindu? People nominally from all of those religions, and others, have committed atrocities, as individuals or groups. I’m sure we can all name names all day long.
Perhaps we should instead NOT religion-bash, but rather evaluate individuals on the basis of their actions and hold them accountable for those alone.
There is a lot of bigotry on this thread. It’s embarrassing.
Mormon mishies tried to convert me back in 1970 when I was on my way to Vietnam after Army flight school.
They told me that Mormon garmies would protect me in a postcrash fire better than our Nomex flight gear, but surviving a crash as a disembodied torso didn’t appeal to me.
The mishies tried to confiscate my beer & cigarettes but I said no. I now realize they would have consumed these products themselves.
If I have argued with mishies since then it is over the existence of mythical “Nephites” and “Lamanites”. Books in the BoM with names like “Mosiah”, “Alma”, “Ether”, and “Omni” are also good for snits-and-giggles.
Nowadays, their “Book of Abraham” is an instant banana peel. That `ancient Egyptian papyrus’ contains no revelations.
;^)
You badly missed my point: My point was that just as you can’t properly draw a conclusion about Mormonism based upon a cherry-picked list of Mormon representatives as this thread did; so, too if we looked ONLY at a cherry-picked BEGATIVE list like the one I put forward.
(In other words, they cancel each other out)
Note to sen lee.....
I do not trust anyone who wears the funny underwear.
They have the face of kindness but a treacherous heart.
Their goal is to suck you into the fold and control your life.
Read Under the banner of Heaven, scary, murderous, killer cult.
You seem to be in the know. I am seriously wondering if Mitt Romney’s character is emblematic of the majority of Mormons?
The first GoP platform called to root out the "twin relics of Barbarism." (Polygamy & slavery)
So Lds shied away from GoP until church leaders made some members switch their party when Utah became a state in 1890s.
“And weird - almost scientology weird.”
Mormonism shares quite a bit with freemasonry. Not sure if that is also true with scientology
Never trust a Mormon cultist, they are two faced.

No sale Mormonism is stupid and bad theologically. Romney it a douche bag. Together you get a stupid douche bag and that’s bad. Boo Mormons booo Utah you suck. Everyone told you this would happen
Calling stupid ideas stupid is not bigotry. Calling something a religon doesn’t make it so. Worship a pile of trash if you want but it’s still garbage.
His magic underpants have made him crazy.
By nature, Romney is a sincere and decent man, but as sometimes happens, he lets those otherwise fine traits lead him into moral vanity and preening. By invoking his conscience and religion for a monumentally wrong and stupid vote, Romney has exposed himself and his faith to opprobrium. Now, to slam LDS, one can cite Romney as an example for it being somehow at odds with a firm grasp of civic duty.
