According to the ADSB transponder data he was following the 101 Fwy to Thousand Oaks. Then suddenly turned and dropped rapidly. Last data point shows he was dropping at 4,000 FPM which is pretty extreme...
Yes.
From the flight path, I would say they were looking for a safe place to land and chose poorly.
There was an open field with plenty of room to land nearby less than a half a mile away to the west.
Instead, the pilot tried to land at an insection near a water reservoir and impacted a hill there. They turned off a flight path that was pointed at the open field.
During autorotation, you aim for an open area and don’t make mid-flight course corrections because they eat up the rotor speed building to use to cushion the landing when at the last possible moment you pull up on the collective and land.
The engines either “fodded” out or disengaged from the transmission just before they tried to autorotate.
Because they were still able to turn in flight, it does not appear they lost tail rotor control, my educated guess is that they lost power from their engines and were auto-rotating but changed course and lost Main rotor speed because of their maneuvers.
He had problems while in basketball HOWEVER after leaving basketball he became a truly wonderful family man AND did MANY, MANY things to help kids in ghetto areas not only money wise but time also!! He sent many kids who did not have the money to go through college the financial means they needed to go to college paid full boat for MANY, MANY kids!!! Dropped off and picked up his own kids from school everyday HIMSELF!!!! Whatever his sins during basketball ENDED after basketball and he became a true role model to HIS kids and many, many, others!!!
Aaah I hope you’re right because I wouldn’t wish that ride on anyone. I’d rather crash straight into the hill, if I had to go in a crash.
It was IFR when I was at WHP at 10 this morning, I could see the pass in question from my hangar, Fog and Low Overcast all around the mountains surrounding the north, west and south valley.
That makes me a little bit sadder.
I was unaware of his early troubles, but haven’t we all made mistakes. To turn your life around is admirable.
Thanks, Kit Cat.
What a loss to many young people. Pity
I have none of that. The box below the map says, “Playback of flight N72EX,” with a white X in a blue box. No arrows or triangles. Maybe I have to be a registered user and be logged in or something. Whatever I do, the little helicopter just sits there and doesn’t move, right-click doesn’t bring anything up. Not too impressed with this website.
Who cares?
TV and celebs are pretty much porn for the strange possessor who creates addictions that estrange the human from himself
The celebs who feed people’s demons their fix to keep the society and its gods appeased might just be feeding off of our souls and starving them. Anyways, once Kobe or Princess Diana dies and people freak out, it make one believe in the spiritualities within them that like watching themselves there at the expense of the possessed human
I didn’t say I would take a knee to show my disgust for the children.
Only for Kobe.
“Children died as well.”
In America liberal women will spend more energy pursuing a divorcing husband than a rapist.
Rape has become extremely relative term thanks to so called feminists
I’m glad you aspire to be like Colin Kaepernick.
Thinking also there had to be two on that flight deck considering the reports about that helicopter being a twin turbine.
No. Just a dick.
Scroll down a bit and there’s a play button to see the flight path in motion.
The seats generally have energy management devices built in. I used to work for a company that made ejection seats and am somewhat familiar with helicopter seat design
That changes things considerably
For auto-rotating to occur, the blades need to come to a stop from turning under power, and set up a reverse rotation in the opposite direction. At 4k feet alt., they prolly never even got stopped before impact, and especially if the faltering engine was inputting any power at all. A chopper that heavy is totally different from a little puddle jumper autogyro. It literally fell like a rock.
Not in the middle of a flight controls emergency, if that’s what it was, and everything thing has to be done perfectly, calmly, by the book, and with a reasonably flat landing area ahead (not a mountain).
Possible pilot heart attack?
Like most players of his era Bryant trashed around with women he wasn’t married to.
There was one rape allegation against him in 2003 he admitted to the sex but denied rape. His accuser refused to testify so the charges were dropped. The 19 y/o girl brought a civil suit and Bryant paid her to go away.
Once away from the game Kobe rediscovered his faith and settled into a good life with his family.
