Hand sanitizers are for BACTERIA, not VIRUSes.

They are pointless for virus.

Makes me laugh thinking about the Ebola stuff for which our private school implored kids to keep using sanitizer at school and forced them to use it in and out of classes, etc.

Makes them feel good, but worthless for the real threat.

ROFLMAO. I am going to the casino this weekend one last time. Damn it. I always feel better using my hand sanitizer. Now I will have to move if a Asian person sits down ;-)

When I worked at the hospital the CDC annual training reinforced that the best way to prevent flu transmission was washing your hands. The infection control folks were nuts about it. I am pretty sure antiviral handwash in hospitals kill viruses.

"Hand sanitizers are for BACTERIA, not VIRUSes."

This is from an industrial isopropyl alcohol manufacturer..

Why Is 70% the Most Effective Concentration of Isopropyl Alcohol for Disinfection?

Isopropyl alcohol, particularly in solutions between 60% and 90% alcohol with 10 – 40% purified water, is rapidly antimicrobial against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Once alcohol concentrations drop below 50%, usefulness for disinfection drops sharply. Notably, higher concentrations of alcohol don’t generate more desirable bactericidal, virucidal, or fungicidal properties.

I actually have 90+% isopropyl but effectiveness may be little more than 70% solution.

And the Islamic medical staff might not want to use sanitizers

Some Muslims have refused to use alcohol-based hand gels to combat the spread of swine flu because they claim it is against their religion
