I know...I went through the whole thing with my mother from about 2009 to 2016. The big break came when she ran out of money and got on the state (AZ) medicaid roles.

My mom stayed in her apartment too long, but wouldn’t hear of leaving it until the day she couldn’t get out of bed. From there to a week in the hospital, two weeks in ‘rehab’ and then to a ‘board and care’ where she died after a month. Thing was her Social Security check was big enough that she didn’t/couldn’t qualify for CA’s MediCal. So no help from the state whatsoever. Of course she was a US citizen and California taxpayer for well over a half century, so I shouldn’t have been surprised.
