A student from Florida has told US President Donald Trump of the antisemitic abuse she suffered at the hands of her peers, including having swastikas drawn on her arms.

During a ceremony in the Oval Office in which Trump signed an executive order protecting prayer in public schools, the president invited those assembled to tell their own stories.

Ariana Hoblin, a high school student from Florida, stepped forward to introduce herself.

Since they no longer teach history in schools. I’m surprised any HS student even could even draw a correct swastika if asked. It would be an interesting experiment.they probably don’t even know what it is or represents.

The Nazis called it the Hakenkreuz or hooked cross. While it has ancient roots in Asia to me it is just another perversion of Christianity just like Communism has been called. Departing from the true faith can have disastrous consequences.

When I went to high school if you fell asleep in study hall or something (like a bunch of guys - sometimes girls! were bored!) you ended up with badly drawn magic marker renderings on your arms, face, whatever of genitalia, dog, cats with & without genitalia, doing it not doing, doing it with you, teachers , cartoons of teachers with & without genitalia (plus other noteworthy features!). Swastikas’ were the least of your worries! And it was all viewed as teenagers being jerks to each other, something teenagers do! Everyone survived to adulthood.

History is still taught in schools—but since it is not considered important enough to test for, it is not emphasized. As a history teacher at one point I was told that my main focus should be in helping math and reading scores. I figured I helped the reading scores by trying to convince the kids to actually read the history book.

Anyway, swastikas are still a favorite thing to carve into a desk top. Very few are done well—they aren’t easy to get right. Teenagers have always loved to shock their elders and a swastika on a paper or desk is sure to get attention. Most, as you imply have no idea of why it gets the reaction it does.

Well, the ‘girls’ don’t mind calling him fat man and definitely point out he is as tall as he is wide.

In some respects that is hard to envision BUT once you get to a certain ‘age’ it starts making sense...

I went in the Navy a 17 at 5’9” 122 or so (depends how many bananas I ate on the way to the recruiter), got out 8 years later at 6’ 148 and stayed within the 148 range until I was 50 (25 years).. Quit smoking AND drinking in 1990 and am now ‘afraid’ to go by truck scales...I don’t want to know...HA HA..

Used to be able to walk in, give me a 33/30 pants, 9.5D shoes and be outta there in a heartbeat.

I have noticed in the 33L pants that they are making the legs MUCH LONGER these days and I do struggle to get them past the knees.....HA HA (Old football injury....yea right)

Someone once suggested I ‘get in shape’ and I very ‘rudely’ informed the dummy that round is a shape...(cymbals clash, exit right)

When I was traveling in Korea, the maps we used had little swastikas indicating the location of Buddhist monasteries (where we often stayed overnight and were fed for a small voluntary donation).

That actually is the only history they teach. Nazis bad and maybe even under your bed. Year after year.

Actually my kids --recent graduates-had pretty decent history classes. Surprisingly excellent American history teachers taught by patriots who love the country.
