Alex Cora, who won the World Series in 2018 in his debut season as manager of the Boston Red Sox but has been linked this offseason to two sign-stealing schemes, has mutually agreed to part ways with the team. Cora, 44, led the Red Sox past the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in 2018, a year removed from winning the World Series in Houston as Astros bench coach.

He is awaiting discipline from MLB for his role in a sign-stealing scheme by the Astros, and is still under investigation for a different sign-stealing scheme that is said to have occurred with the Red Sox in 2018.

They used technology and an audible signal system. You shouldn’t comment if you don’t know any of the facts.

What no one seems to mentioning is just how dumb are catchers and pitchers? It is down to stubbornness, laziness or dumbness that all catcher’s signs don’t have changing pre-decided indicators that change the signs or the sign order with today’s technology.

That is what Alex Wood did for LA in game four of the '17 WS in Houston. He suspected they were cheating. By doing this he was able to pitch 5.2 no hit innings before giving up a run. LA eventually won, 6-2.

The Nats handled the cheatin’ ‘stros like champs. I think Strasburg was actually tipping at one point and fixed it when he was told, smooth sailing after that. If the Astros were cheating with technology in the World Series it was much more advanced than banging on trashcans, clapping or whistling.

What a weird series and season. 2019 Nats will go down as truly one of the greatest and weirdest runs ever. That Astros team was already a juggernaut, those players will always have some stink from this on them.

I wonder, could the Nationals have done so well due to the Yankees calling this out in the ALCS? About the time that Hinch was poo pooing the Yankees for calling out the cheating, it was leaked out that the Sporting News was interviewing Friers.

Yeah, the panic in the Astro organization must have started right about as the WS hit.

Good on the Nationals for beating these cheaters.

I don’t agree with title stripping.

I swear it must be a concentration or smarts thing. Like they are so focused many of them can’t pitch and also think about a sign indicator. But man, this is their dream job that took them years of practice to get. You would think it would have been perfected as they were coming up.

I think the Nats definitely went into the series with sign stealing and tipping on their minds. They had a strategy, it presumably worked fairly well considering everyone lost their home games, ha.

If you think the other team is cheating, can't the catcher run to the mound before every pitch, or would the ump call delay of game?

The funny thing is that Hinch was a catcher.

How do we know Cora was more responsible than Hinch?

There’s a mound visit limit now, six per game. Before they put it in the rulebook it was getting ridiculous. Yadier Molina used to visit the mound a million times per game, it seemed like anyhow.

This idiot snubbed the President of the United States:

In May 2019, President Donald Trump honored the World Series champion Boston Red Sox. The team's manager, Alex Cora, did not attend the ceremony citing his frustration with the administration's efforts to help his native Puerto Rico recover from a devastating hurricane.

What a buffoon!

I agree, in general, with a mound visit limit, but if there is suspected cheating, and the official don't address it...

How about limits for the pitcher walking up to the catcher?

Oh yes that Astros team was a juggernaut. Woweee it takes a real big leaguer to hit a pitch you know is coming. Except they didn’t when it came time to play the Nationals and then juggernaut, not so much.

Juggernaut my arse.

Any type of sign stealing can simply be thwarted by an changing indicator system for the signs or their order. Or, the catcher calls a breaking ball low and away and the pitch thrown is actually a fastball high and tight. Or the pitcher walks over to the runner standing on 2nd who is relaying signs and location to the batter and tells him that he knows what he is doing, and it’s going to get his teammates hurt. The threat of sticking it in someone’s ribs doesn’t get used enough in today’s game, it would solve a lot of these cheating problems. Also a lot of the capering celebration crappola.

I read the LA Times link. It makes a fair case for how ripped off their opponents were. But I think stripping titles is a Pandora’s box. Got to move forward the same way MLB started testing for steroids.
