Alex Cora, who won the World Series in 2018 in his debut season as manager of the Boston Red Sox but has been linked this offseason to two sign-stealing schemes, has mutually agreed to part ways with the team. Cora, 44, led the Red Sox past the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in 2018, a year removed from winning the World Series in Houston as Astros bench coach.

He is awaiting discipline from MLB for his role in a sign-stealing scheme by the Astros, and is still under investigation for a different sign-stealing scheme that is said to have occurred with the Red Sox in 2018.

I don’t think the Revolution cheated. But they are soccer. Not sure if that counts.

What is it with New England teams and cheating? Just saying.

Ahhh but when the Yankees complained about the Astros banging the trash can last year, Hinch arrogantly sat there and told the Yankees to “cool it” and stop buying into conspiracy theories.

He knew they were actually cheating, had cheated and would continue to cheat.

And yet I have to read how good of a manager he is and that he will land a job once his suspension is up.

Good manager?!?! Really? Because he got away with it for so long?

They were using video feed of the catcher’s signs in real time and then signaling the batter while he was in the box if off speed or fastball was coming. The Astro’s 2017 chase rate on breaking balls was supposedly pretty low at home.

What no one seems to mentioning is just how dumb are catchers and pitchers? It is down to stubbornness, laziness or dumbness that all catcher’s signs don’t have changing pre-decided indicators that change the signs or the sign order with today’s technology. You base it on inning number or the score or number of outs or anything else that changes.

“Cheating has not been part of baseball.”

Stealing signs have been part of baseball. But that has happened by normal means of observation. This was beyond the pale and just short of fixing a game.

The Astros need to be stripped of their titles.

Sure, you can try to figure out other teams signs through normal means of observation that are available to BOTH teams.

What the Astros did and, it looks like the Sox, was far more elaborate.

Don’t get me wrong, Hinch got what he deserves. I just think from the report that Cora is the bigger cheating scumbag who deserves even more punishment. Beltran is guilty but doesn’t deserve severe punishment. If a bench coach is stealing signals electronically and getting that to you in the box, for the player, that’s no worse than than using the info your teammate on second base is relaying you you. I assume the Mets will can Beltran to disassociate themselves from this mess.

The Astros need to be stripped of their titles.

I wouldn't go that far. The penalties are severe enough.

Cora is about to get suspended. More than 1 year.

Dombrowski also needed to go.

= = = = = = = = = = =

Just to ‘prove’ that all bad news isn’t all that bad,

Just how brilliant are/were the Nationals this year, going 4-0 in the ‘den of iniquity’?

Reading about how ‘nasty’ the Astros are/have been recently and threatening to strip them of titles, firing managers and other managers who may have KNOWN about it, just proves that the Washington National feat has to be one of the greatest in sports history.

Like ‘we’ say about steroids...

Steroids may give one more power and/or upper body strength but if you don’t have the hand-eye coordination and know how to swing, the steroids just bulk one up.

Food for thought???
Bo Porter the current pre/post game announcer for the Nationals was Houston Mgr 2013-14 and was Nationals 3rd base coach prior to that..
Washington & Houston share the same spring training facilities.
Might make one wonder if Washington hadn’t heard of or even ‘known’ of the scandal and used it to their advantage in the World Series?

The penalties were severe for management. Except the players got nothing. It’s hard with that many cheaters who have a union. A real deterrent would have been everyone on the roster suspended the first week of the season or something, but they would never allow it.

I’m a Nats fan and I feel sick over Altuve being on this team. What an all time great player and I thought very classy. I’m not a fan of Soto’s gyrations and grabbing contortions, and I though Bregman and Correa had too much swishy prancing going on as well. But Altuve could play with the greats in any era and act nonchalant about it. Rendon is like that too. I wonder if the Angels can be competitive in the West now.

Thanks for reminding me about that.

Hinch is a liar and a cheater.

I hope I never see him manage another game.

I think they did a while ago. Who the hell knows. They draw the same 10,000 weirdos for every game.

Really? Are they? Does Altuve deserve the MVP for that year. His home average is where he has trouble. Tell me that didn’t help him that year or this year. Tell me that but for that cheating they don’t win two (2) Game 7s at home.

Stripped? Yeah that is the least thing that can happen to them. They barely beat the Yankees and couldn’t win an away game. Now we know how they won the home games.
