Universals Cats was in need of a holiday miracle. Instead, the filmmaking team behind the box office disaster got a lump of coal. Tom Hoopers big-screen adaptation has clawed its way to $38 million globally after two weeks in theaters, a dismal figure that could result in $100 million in theatrical losses, according to rival studio executives. After its disappointing $6.5 million domestic debut ahead of Christmas, Cats failed to gain any traction during the busiest time of year for moviegoing. In its sophomore outing, the film was relegated to No. 9 on box office charts, scraping together $8.7 million over the five-day holiday frame. Audiences, dissuaded by brutal reviews, instead made the Jellicle choice to see Disneys Frozen 2, Spies in Disguise, or essentially anything that didnt involve Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift and Idris Elba pretending to be felines.

This is awesome. Love it when Hollywood falls flat on its face. I remember when I was a kid and I would see commercials for the Broadway show. I remember thinking to myself, who would go see something like this? It looked awful then and it looks awful now.
Add another $5 million in streaming and DVD revenue and you only have a $95 million loss.
I saw the Broadway production. I’ve seen a lot of plays, and generally like them.
Cats was awful.
There were 3,380 theaters showing the movie on opening day. I would imagine fewer than 100 will still be running it in a week.
NOT!
Any Hollyhood loss is awesome.
Love it when Hollywood falls flat on its face.
I agree with you but be rest assured that even if they run totally out of money, they’ll keep pushing their garbage and lies as long as they have a nickels worth of credit to spend.
Careful....the dems may pass tax bills to bail them out
Anything with Taylor Swift in it does not get my dollar or time.
Funny stuff! Keep running your mouth, Taylor!
A LOT.
Sometimes a bomb like this can really derail a career, acting or singing.
The stench of a rotten movie can follow one around for a while.
I let some “cultured” girl drag me to see it on Broadway when I was 27. We broke up during the show.
I wanted to freaking hang myself.
Phantom i thought was really very good.
The only musical I ever really liked.
Well that and Moulin Rouge.. the movie. But I don’t need rumors of me being gay starting on this board so forget I said that :)
Hahaha! Too late!
It’ll be the cat ladies’ Rocky Horror.
Tom the Son saw it. He said it was “okay part of the time.”
There have been great movies that were made less than 70 years ago :)
Though I WONT spend 12 bucks to walk out after 5 minutes because of leftist nonsense, I will watch movies when they come out on Amazon.
I’m not gonna be one of those people who think only their generation’s films were worth anything and shut my eyes and mind to potentially great new movies :)
I really wanted to like this movie...
Then I saw the trailer...
Narcissistic, Joyless, trash
Exactly! I love some good news on a Monday morning!
You freaking read that?!??!!?
doomed.
They should have saved their money. Save for Jennifer Hudson and Judy Dench, I’ve never heard of any of them.
