My husband and grew up in the 1950's and are trying to remember the name of a health product that was given like peanut butter, on a spoon, usually at night.
Dr. Pepper was our Fizz-ician.
I sure remember Geritol in the 50s.
I believe in the commercials they said, “Remember it’s Lotireg spelled backwards.”
There were four of us kids. My grandfather was a pharmacist. Hadacol left him a box of logo t-shirts. Guess which kids all wore Captain Hadacol shirts? All the other kids knew why it was called Had A Call.
The Geritol tonic contained about 12% alcohol and some B vitamins.

Blackstrap molasses is horrible. That’s nothing you would forget.
In LA in the 50’s my gal friends’ mom gave her nightly a spoonful of something like that — I begged my mom to have some too. She said “don’t be silly” (which she said a lot) —phonetically it was something like - Ear-do-lay.
Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin?
#METOO!
Well me and my 5 siblings are either in or close to our 70's and no worse for wear. I guess mom knew what she was doing.. We all had perfect attendance awards during our days in school..
Paregoric was wonderful!! It put us to sleep. Opium.
Metrecal was a diet meal substitute.
Having read all the reminiscences so far, I think that the "Multicebrin" I recall taking was a pill or capsule -- one of the first "multi-vitamin" supplements.
But, for the life of me, I can't recall the name of the molasses-based stuff. :-{

<THREADSLIDE> I was very familiar with the taste of molasses, because we always had a gallon can of Ribbon-cane Molasses in the cabinet under the sink. It was wonderful on Mom's hot, buttered biscuits (still one of my favorite "Mlidnight Snacks"! )
But, the real treat was in the bottom of the can, where the sugar crystallized out into "Rock Candy"... </THREADSLIDE> '-)
TXnMA '-)
Geritol’s “benefit” was that it was mostly ethyl alcohol...
My grandmother used to take a blob of Vicks every nite at bedtime. I think it might have been to drive off my granddaddy.
She got Alzheimers but don’t know it that is related.
Youre correct
In 2019 they have taken on new meaning and often they are a bottle tree stuck stands and stuff....often blue but with others too
Light dispersion and stuff
Fifty years ago you would see them in the Mississippi delta mostly and it often signified someone who sold mojo or voodoo stuff
The trees would be white or white and blue rings up the trunk
And milk of magnesium bottles hanging like Christmas tree ornaments
Maybe some split tires as a fence all painted same pattern
I remember one new Tchula Miss in Holmes county on the back road towards Egypt plantation
There were even a few in the black parts of Jackson
Probably something thats died out
Was it “asafetida”?
Goose grease, yes. Never heard of skunk grease.
I don’t think I ever had Blackstrap Molasses.
It certainly made a lasting impression on Dad. And not in a good way.
