The actor who starred in a classic baseball movie based in Iowa came to the state this weekend to make a political pitch.
I did not fly out here to tell you what to do or who to vote for. I came out to tell you who Im voting for, Kevin Costner, standing on stage at a Pete Buttigieg event in Indianola, Iowa, early Sunday afternoon, said at the start.
He only indirectly mentioned the Field of Dreams the hit 1989 movie that was filmed in the Dyersville and Dubuque areas in 1988.
This has been a really sweet place for me, this state. Costner said before telling the crowd of more than 1200 that hes a registered independent.
Neither party owns my vote. They dont get it automatically, Costner said, to applause.
Costner said we have become a nation in perpetual crisis and after endorsing Barack Obama in 2008, hes returned to the political stage to publicly back a White House hopeful.
Moral courage speaks with a certain clarity, Costner said. Its our job to listen and not get fooled.
Costner never mentioned President Trump by name during his 12-minute speech. Costner didnt say the last name of the candidate he endorsed, either, merely referring to him as Pete.
He wont compete to be the loudest. I wont see his arms flapping, Costner said and murmurs rose from the crowd, and he doesnt have to yell.
AUDIO of Costners appearance, 14:00
Costner closed by saying Americans get a chance to hold the course or demand something better every four years.

There are a lot of good actors and performers who are politically clueless. Herd mentality at cocktail parties and soirées
For some reason I thought of this cartoon after seeing Buttigig and rise...
Says hes an independent but voted for Obama and in the primary? Pete. Not very independent to me. Plus does he get to vote in the primary as an independent? Hmmmmm.
Disagree. The new age, hippie stuff may be nonsense, but hearing Kevin Costner ask his dad if he wants "to have a catch" is glorious.
Common in the acting trade...
The movie was total nonsense and a waste of time.
Im an independent conservative.
Us unaffiliateds cross the political spectrum.
I always remember when Costner approached the great filmmaker John Huston for a role, Huston replied that if he was looking to cast a guy dying from AIDS, he’d cast Costner. Maybe Huston was on to something...
I’ll keep your review in mind when I watch it again on opening day (as I do every year).
Ron Howard plays the same game too and does the small town, all-american boy routine, telling the public "aww gee whiz, I've NEVER been a partisan politics kinda guy, I consider myself to be a common sense Independent who picks the best person and who votes for candidates in both parties... by sheer coincidence, EVERY politician I publicly endorse or stump for is a deranged leftist DemocRAT though!
