A former investment manager alleges in a whistleblower complaint to the Internal Revenue Service that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has amassed about $100 billion in accounts intended for charitable purposes, according to a copy of the complaint obtained by The Washington Post.
The confidential document, received by the IRS on Nov. 21, accuses church leaders of misleading members and possibly breaching federal tax rules by stockpiling their surplus donations instead of using them for charitable works. It also accuses church leaders of using the tax- exempt donations to prop up a pair of businesses.

Read the BOM and get back to me. You use the Bible for proselytizing not the BOM. Why? Isn’t it the most correct book ever written according to Joseph Smith, JR.?
Some pay pre-tax, others after deductions.
You are so full of Fake News! I’m the Clerk in my LDS group (Ward) and I’m in charge of reporting and keeping tabs on tithing.
Are there reciepts? Yes..duh! Are there tithing bills? No...Fake News! Can you still go to church if you don’t pay tithing ....Yes!
Why do we do tithing???????????? Because:
Malachi 3:10
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
...Why don’t you do tithing?
Hahaha! This is just silly. No, there is no tithing bill sent out in the mail to Latter-day Saints. The only thing that is mailed is the tax receipt for tax deduction purposes.
It is NOT true. Just as it is not true that Latter-day Saints are required to sign over their houses if they ever ask the church for financial assistance.
I love both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I quote the bible more here because it is accepted by those I am arguing with.
Do you have a problem with having the Bible quoted to you? Possibly you need a re-fresher course.
I think your Silly!
You think a church should send out a bill? Also, you think someone shouldn’t get a receipt for a donation?
Your weird.
Um, no. Latter-day Saints are asked if they are full tithe payers during the temple recommend interview. They do not provide receipts. They are also asked if they avoid smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or drinking coffee or tea. They are also asked if they are loyal to their spouse and avoid pornography. They are also asked if they are honest in all their dealing. Also, they are asked if they abuse their spouses or children.
I should know, I joined the church and was just asked all these questions.
You really are a dupe! Can you please show me where the LDS Church has lobbied for open borders and amnesty?
I wouldn’t even call this fake-news .... more like crap-head-idiot-news.
No. You are confusing the donation forms where people can put in their contributions.
I do not know why you feel the need to lie about the Latter-day Saints, but nothing you’ve said thus far is true.
Someday, the lies will end, and I hope for your sake it is not when you’re standing before our God, Jesus Christ. The Holy Bible says very clearly that liars cannot be saved.
Actually you are correct, I mispoke ....
The Church doesn’t necessarily give you a receipt, but there’s a carbon copy that you keep when you fill out the donation form. This carbon copy is your receipt.
Another falsehood.
Sounds like you’re describing the Iglesia ni Cristo.
Um, not true. The Church does NOT, and never has lobbied for “open borders and amnesty.”
What is has done is ask us to treat refugees with compassion and view them as Christ himself, because Jesus SAID so.
The posting of this thread doesn’t represent Free Republic’s finest moment.
“These were pre-filled in bills with specific amounts inserted and a total to be paid; the key word is: to be paid.”
I do not believe you, as a member I have not experienced it.
Then again I do not know all things.
It is time for you to show proof of what you said; other then you heard it from your neighbor who heard it from someone at work.
In other words stop acting like a democrat trying to impeach the president.
We’re used to it .... every now and then the LDS (Mormon) haters have to have their fix.
Christ referred to people who were legally in the land.
As for the innuendo about me trying to impeach the president, I suggest you get a reality check first.
It was short for the local bishop and church elders coming for tea and cookies trying to help.
The doctrine of the LDS is a lie from the day of it's founding by Joseph Smith, JR and his friends.
