Tragic Barnard College freshman Tessa Majors was allegedly in Morningside Park to buy marijuana when she was fatally stabbed by a group of teenage robbers, the head of the NYPD sergeants union claimed on Sunday.
What I am understanding is that [Majors] was in the park to buy marijuana, Sergeants Benevolent Association president Ed Mullins told radio host John Catsimatidis on his AM 970 show, The Cats Roundtable.
Police sources confirmed to The Post that they are investigating that angle, based on claims from a college friend of Majors.
A friend of the victim claimed to detectives that the 18-year-old Virginia native and musician told the pal she was headed to the Upper Manhattan park to buy pot Wednesday evening, sources said.
Majors was later found fatally stabbed on stairs near West 116th Street and Morningside Drive. Her bag was gone.

Barnard is a private all girls school.
I always had friends (gay men, mostly) who had the pot and very strong stuff indeed. At that age, she shouldn’t have had any problem finding a guy willing to let her take a puff. Weird story in so many ways!
Hell, right now theres an app where you peruse a menu, pick what you want and it tells you where and who to get it from.
Ive seen pictures of weed along with a phone number on Craigslist. I gotta think its a setup.
Yes, in the hopes that other stupid girls and boys might learn something so it never happens to them. It's not meant to demean her. It's a wake-up call to others. Think before you go out after dark alone in New York City, or in that specific area. That young gang probably isn't the only one operating around there. It isn't going to end with her. There will be other victims, but if the police can make people aware and alert...then I don't have any problem with them reporting what she was doing in the last minutes of her life, especially if it saves just one life down the road.
To be honest, I wasn’t even sure Barnard still existed after Columbia was opened up to women. My female-only college floundered after all the women’s colleges went co-ed in the 70s. But the original poster is essentially correct: any Columbia guy would have gladly sold or given her some.
Your link does not have anything to do with story. Can you post the proper link?
Who more likely to be carrying cash than a person looking to buy drugs.
Darwin award winner ‘O’ the day. Her powder puff existence or latent stupidity played a large part of this.
It doesn’t matter how many armed or unarmed security guards they have, especially if they only stay on campus, and don’t, or aren’t allowed to make safety rounds off campus grounds in surrounding areas...like the park. I checked Barnard’s site, and they don’t have armed guards, and I also checked Columbia’s site, but they don’t provide info that they have armed guards...at least not that I could find. I see it’s only a three minute walk from Columbia to Barnard, but do we know if Columbia actually does any patrolling of Barnard’s campus?

Jeeze, 65 postings and no one notices my mistake (me included). Here you go:
“look at Google Maps, youll see that this isnt a bad part of town - the park is right across the street from the college dorms.”
Sorry friend. That “park” is the other side of the moon at night. Broadway side is where there is any activity: Subway stop, Noodle shop, Falafels etc . . . all the way down to 110th st.
Too many Uber-type delivery services to venture out and buy weed today.
Don’t blame the victim, but . . . WTF was she doing?
“I hope her lefty Va Professor father keeps his trap shut and not blame Trump.”
Given the attitude of Leftists, they’ll blame Trump because he pushed Criminal Justice Reform, thereby preventing the needed discipline of this killer.
In my defense, I saw a Daily Mail article earlier about the subject so I believed you ;-)
This was around 7 pm, not midnight, if I recall correctly
You probably noticed that the murderer was described by neighbors as, "He just hangs out, he smokes weed all day, just a normal person in my eyes."
Stellar citizen, in other words.
I think of Central Park as being the dividing line between safety and danger. But then you're the native New Yorker.
