Queens Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she is a no vote on President Trump’s signature trade deal, the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement.
“I am leaning and intending to vote no,” she told voters at a community town hall in Woodside Saturday, saying she was concerned about how the deal would affect those seeking out cheaper drugs in places like Canada.
“Folks who, because of our shameful health care system in the United States, cross the border into Canada to try to purchase insulin to bring back,” she said, would feel threatened due to the rising price of pharmaceuticals.
Despite her opposition, the trade deal is on track to be one of the president’s rare bipartisan achievements.
