College Football Playoff updated rankings: Who are the top four teams in the fifth CFP poll of 2019?
12/3/19 | ZAC AL-KHATEEB

Posted on 12/03/2019 5:37:02 PM PST by Clint N. Suhks

The penultimate set of College Football Playoff rankings were revealed on Tuesday. Ohio State, LSU and Clemson and Georgia ranked as the Nos 1-4 teams, respectively, while Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor slotted in the Nos. 5-7 spots. The Bulldogs have the best bet of making the final field with a win over LSU, but Utah and the winner of the Big 12 championship likely need to make a statement that can't be ignored by the selection committee.

MORE: A guide to conference championship weekend The Playoff rankings will be released each Tuesday leading up to conference championship weekend. The final rankings will be unveiled on Dec. 8. The College Football Playoff semifinals will be on Dec. 28 at the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta and PlayStation Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. The CFP championship game will be Jan. 13 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

That likely LSU-Clemson semi final will be a monster. 3 very good teams this year. Maybe the deepest playoff ever.

All I know was Auburn beating Bama was the game of the year. I loved it and wished I had recorded it so I could watch it over and over and I’m a Clemson fan

Fair question though arguable either way. Auburn lost to UFl and UGa in addition to LSU. Bama lost to LSU and Auburn, both close games. However, Bama doesn’t really have a good win and Auburn arguably has 2 good ones — Bama and Oregon.

Below 6, it doesn’t matter. Neither are getting in. If we had a REAL playoff, i.e. 16 teams, then seeding would come into play and it might matter, but even then, not a great deal and Auburn’s 3rd loss would be a factor.

These rankings have been manipulated to keep Ohio State from having to play Clemson in the first round. All teams that Ohio State has beaten are ranked higher than they deserve to be ranked in order to support the notion that Ohio State deserves being ranked above LSU. Alabama drops seven spots for a 3 point loss on the road to a ranked opponent while Michigan drops only ONE spot after being routed at home by Ohio State? Wisconsin ranked 8th after their horrible loss to Illinois? Cincinatti loses by double digits to Memphis and drops ONE spot? Minnesota drops like a rock. Minnesota did not nor will they play Ohio State so dropping like a rock was fine by this committee. All in an effort to support their favored team as the top ranked team. Bring back the BCS and get these biased bastards out of the decision making process.

This is a joke, not a fair upright system. If LSU wins it all they should leave that trophy on the field and tell this committee to stick it up their ass.

“All I know was Auburn beating Bama was the game of the year.”

Too many asterisks in that game for me.

>>What would the committee due if Wisconsin, LSU, Viginia, Utah and Baylor all won?

Can’t speak to what a committee that’s interested in politics and revenue would do, but a FAIR committee would probably put LSU and Utah in for sure, alone with Ohio State and either Clemson or Baylor. I think it would be easier to look at who would be out under your scenario:

OU
UGa
Wisconsin
UVa

That leaves Baylor as a conference champion who would be in competition with 2 non-conference champions (Clem and OhSU for the final 2 spots). Ohio State has good wins over Penn State, Michigan, with no bad losses. Baylor has no bad losses and only 1 good win over OU. Clemson has no good wins or bad losses. Under that analysis it would be Baylor or Clemson for the final spot and we all know who’d get the nod.

I don’t think either Ohio State or LSU have to win Saturday. Clemson MAY not have to. Everyone else DOES have to win to get in.

Makes perfect sense to me, actually, and is sort of refreshing to see the committee is not beholden to Bama. In spite of their reputation, Bama has exactly NO good wins. Their best win is over A&M. Although I’m an Aggie and hate saying this, A&M is not a good team this year. Their 7 wins are over marginal competition themselves. The only 2 good teams Bama played, they lost to. Michigan beat Iowa, Notre Dame and Indiana so in spite of a big loss to Ohio State, clearly the best team in the country when they played them, they shouldn’t be much lower than Bama despite one more loss (see above comparison between Bama and Auburn). Michigan’s 3 losses were, like Bama’s, to good teams.

Same thing again this year. Clemson plays in such a crappy conference they get a free pass into the playoffs. Clemson strength of schedule is #35 in the nation. What a joke.

Bama beating bama. Don’t get me wrong Auburn had to be in position to capitalize on mistakes but a pick six on a firs and goal from the 3 - Bama should have run 4 times. 14 points swing on that alone.

I dunno about 16-game playoffs.

5 of the top 16 this year are SEC teams. And the too top SEC teams are playing each other Saturday (LSU vs. UGa).

Most of the teams play a tough regular schedule in terms of match ups with ranking opponents, with Clemson and Alabama less so.
