Some Things I Learned Watching Live PD.

Some Things I Learned Watching Live PD:

Make sure the lights on the rear of your vehicle are working at all times.

Wearing your seatbelt saves you from a traffic stop. Which can lead to further complications.

Can’t out run from the cops on foot or in a vehicle unless you have a motorcycle.

If you have to hold your pants up when you’re walking there’s no way you can outrun the cops on foot.

Running from the cops because you have a traffic warrant will only cost you more money and time, probably in jail.

Make sure your baby mamas don’t know about each other.

In spite of what your friends told you making a license plate with an inkjet printer doesn’t work in Missouri.

Everybody in Rhode Island is drunk and belligerent.

Most people in Texas are drunk and belligerent.

Many people in Montana are drunk and belligerent.

Don’t violate a restraining order.

If you pick up a hooker make sure you get your story straight before you get stopped.

Don’t frequent known drug areas.

Driving with an open alcoholic container in your car and having your kid hold it for you between sips will get you arrested.

Don’t spill bits of weed on your lap while you’re driving.

This isn’t my pants, shirt, jacket, or hat never works.

Don’t drive like a jerk.

Properly use your turn signals.

Cops win fights because they bring more people.

If a cop looks like he’s over 35 they have heard every story there is to hear. It’s all repetition to them.

Lieut. Danny Brown can smell marijuana from 300 feet even if you’re driving by in your car with the windows rolled up.

If you pick a fight with Deputy Garrow Brown you’re a confirmed idiot.

In Arizona driving more than 85 miles per hour will get you arrested.

In Nevada(my home state) getting drunk and belligerent in a casino will get you a trip to jail.

When you throw your alcoholic container out the window make sure you don’t hit the cop that is walking up to your vehicle with it.

Don’t be belligerent with the cop unless you need a place to sleep for the night.

When the actual sheriff from your county stops you it’s best not to call him names and insult his mother.

Can’t beat the dog’s nose, they will find the drugs.

If you have 18 illegals in the bed of your pickup truck don’t speed on the freeway.

Getting caught with your clothes off with an underage girl or boy will get you arrested.

Asking the cop “Do you know who I am?” never works the way you think it will.

If you hear a helicopter while you’re running from the cops just surrender.

Cops are mostly decent people. They will do their job and if you show them respect they may cut you a break. Face it you’re caught.

Shoplifting in today’s world will get your trip to the jail and a record - unless you are in California.

Of course I already knew most of these things; but there is apparently a large part of society that doesn't know them.

What did you learn from watching Live PD?

I haven’t watched it, but I enjoyed reading your distillation of lessons learned.

You forgot that the police aren’t your friend and aren’t there to help you.

I saw a show called “Cops” only 3 or 4 times, and it was so depressing I would never do it again.

I was jogging in NC by a Verizon shop that got robbed and the robbers were stupid enough to flee all the way down to Richland County SC and activate the phones, which led the cops right to them.

I’ve learned that most of it is staged or hand picked to convey the desired agenda being put forth.

Reality shows suck but they’re cheap to produce in a failing market.

I doubt if much on Live PD is staged. Do they cheery pick patrol area’s? I think so. The violent and high speed vehicle chases would be too risky to stage.

That’s a good one!

I’ve also noticed how many extended police chases there are in LA. —sometimes hours!

I’ve learned that gasoline prices in South Carolina are way less than here in the Puget Sound area, by about $1.20 per gallon. It’s a good show, by the way.

The police may not be your friends, but they aren’t your enemy either. Sounds to me as though you didn’t learn much in your “wastedyears”.

I can’t think of anything I’ve learned from Live PD that you didn’t cover. Except that maybe Dan Abrams is making more money than everybody who visits this thread combined.

I noticed that also. Currently we are at $3.65. NC is well below that.

Real cops doing their jobs - not staged.

Well, there’s nothing to learn from Live PD that most of us didn’t already catch on COPS, which was a much longer running program, and very popular. Anyway, a few takeaways from these types of shows:

-Everyone pulled over always lies to the police. Always.
-If you are caught driving a stolen vehicle, you had no idea it was stolen. Honest.
-Those aren’t my drugs you just found under the seat officer.
-It’s amazing how many people give fake names, only to confess a short time later.

Honestly, while there are certainly some bad cops out there, this type of show kind of drives home that %95 of the time, police are dealing with absolute garbage. They’re sent to investigate or deal in real time with crimes, that’s the job, and it has to affect them mentally.

Just do what the cops tell you to do. It is that simple.

If they take you out of the car, it IS getting searched.

Good adds to the list!

There was one episode where a guy gave his brothers name. The brother had more serious warrants than the guy in custody! Idiots.

I used to be completely pro police. Several things have made me question what they are really for.

One: My wife got pulled over for speeding. It turns out her registration was also expired. The threatened to put her out on the street so he could have the car towes and got my two sons in tears. He let her park the car and I had to leave work to get them. He could have done that in the first place.

Two: My son’s grade school class went on a field trip to the local town hall. There was a canine unit there directing traffic. The entire hour of the tour he let the dog bark at the kids while standing in his bloused pants acting all tough.

Those are the personal events. Every day we read about the militant cops that really seem to want nothing more than to show how much they are ready to fight and destroy.

Some of it is taped ahead of time. It’s not staged unless it is “a feature” and they “promote” those as such.

Some nights there is just not much going on, they have three hours to fill.
