I wasn’t sure about Forbes - I couldn’t remember if they were on the “no excerpts” list or not so here’s a link. Basically discusses efforts to see if avian flu can altered to cross species from bird to human. NIH is involved.

Made me think of population control efforts.

Think China. Pigs are great virus reservoirs, and if a pig is infected with both avian flu and mammalian flu, the viruses might be able to exchange genetic material, gaining virulence towards new hosts.
