A friend of mine called this morning who’d seen Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell last night in Hollywood. She knew I was seeing it this morning in New York. “It’s going to upset your apple cart of an Oscar list,” she said.

She was right. Eastwood, at 90, has made a jewel of a film in “Richard Jewell,” a real masterclass in filmmaking. Eastwood will have to be nominated for Best Director. The screenplay and music (by Arturo Sandoval) will have to be nominated. And the actors, the actors now roll right into the top 5 in their respective categories. Paul Walter Hauser is the most unlikely leading man as Jewell. Sam Rockwell, now on a run, goes into Best Supporting Actor. Kathy Bates in Supporting Actress.

In all of this BS Trump hysteria we forget how disgusting the Bill Clinton administration was with the FBI/DOJ in other events: Waco,Oklahoma City,Columbine,Ruby Ridge,Elian Gonzalez and many others.

Saw MIDWAY last week and I’ll tell you one thing Harrison nailed: Nimitz’sense of the enormity of the what he was involved in and what he had to do.

Yes. The Doolittle raid scenes were excellent, too.

That in itself could even be a separate movie.

I’d like to see a separate movie about Guadalcanal and another on Tarawa.

Nope, Jethro Bodine was undercover living with his uncle and granny in Beverly Hills.

Midway (despite Harrelson), Ford vs. Ferrari (despite Damon), and now this. All of these on top of Joker, which was excellent.

Yup.

I normally see about two movies a year.

I have or will see the four movies that you just mentioned all in a span of a few weeks.

The FBI really honed their “skills” on the past 20 years. They can’t solve their way out of a paper sack, but framing innocent people they got down cold.

No, but I think he did have some attractive Bond girl types (Bodine girls?) from Miss Hathaway’s secretarial pool.

Arturo Sandoval did the music, that’s reason enough to see it.

Just saw Midway an hour ago. Harrelson behaves. I didn’t see him slip out of character at all. Outstanding movie!

There will come a day when people remember that yeah, he was also an actor. Amazing talent.

I'll always remember. Rowdy Yates was my first 'crush' when I was young!

December 13: Perfect timing, just as the Horowitz/Barr/Durham tornado is loosed upon the FBI brass, and America gets an education.

Thank you! It sounds like the makings of another instant classic. He’s a marvel at any age, but at this age he’s a miracle. No, I didn’t know he wrote his film scores! That’s simply amazing.
