A friend of mine called this morning whod seen Clint Eastwoods Richard Jewell last night in Hollywood. She knew I was seeing it this morning in New York. Its going to upset your apple cart of an Oscar list, she said.
She was right. Eastwood, at 90, has made a jewel of a film in Richard Jewell, a real masterclass in filmmaking. Eastwood will have to be nominated for Best Director. The screenplay and music (by Arturo Sandoval) will have to be nominated. And the actors, the actors now roll right into the top 5 in their respective categories. Paul Walter Hauser is the most unlikely leading man as Jewell. Sam Rockwell, now on a run, goes into Best Supporting Actor. Kathy Bates in Supporting Actress.

I saw the preview earlier this week while my son and I were at “Midway.” It looks really good. What an unlikely topic for a movie!

“Ford vs. Ferrari (despite Damon),”
Someone I know saw that and said he was on the edge of his seat for much of the movie. He’s not a Matt Damon fan either, but the guy is a good actor and my friend said he and Christian Bale are both excellent. I think I can get hubby to actually go to that one too!

Are you SURE you want to see "Ford vs. Ferrari"? Automotive writer Hannah Elliott at Bloomberg says that it is filled with nothing but macho white guys, lots of testosterone, hot cars, and hardly any women not in a wifely role, just like the entire 1950s and 1960s decades. She suggests it's a real un-Woke stinker.
See: Bloomberg Reviewer Obsessed with Lack of Diversity in 'Ford v Ferrari' for details.
Yes, /sarc.

He's really only 89 1/2, which is still impressive.
Maybe he'll be 90 by the time the film ends.
I like the guy, but he needs a better, tougher editor.

Between the press and LEO, they destroyed this poor man's life. Just remember, it was the "rank and file" FBI agents that Hannity is always holding up as virtuous and honest, that tried to frame and destroy Jewell. Then the DOJ covered up their misconduct saying "no intentional violation of Mr. Jewell's civil rights and no criminal misconduct". I'll see it, though probably at home after it's run in theaters.

Funny, I saw the previews for Good Liar as I was waiting for Joker. It looked promising but I’m so disgusted with Hollywood that I wrote it off. Maybe I’ll put it back on my list...

I did, with my M1-Garand.

I concur with you re Damon, but I think Harrelson is talented. His politics are awful but IMO he has talent.

Ha — sarcasm noted and yep I saw the review you linked.
I can’t believe there may actually be a big budget car movie to go see. The left ruins 99% of everything but sometimes things slip through.
To: Yardstick
Aside from Dogma, you can replace Damon with Wahlberg in any Movie and it would be a better movie.

His late career directing has been something astonishing. From highlights like Unforgiven to American Sniper, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, The Mule, to Gran Torino,... There will come a day when people remember that yeah, he was also an actor. Amazing talent.
To: Yardstick
Just saw Midway. It was really good.
