I See Dead People: Dreams and Visions of the Dying
YouTube ^ | December 2, 2015 | Dr. Christopher Kerr | TEDxBuffalo

Posted on 11/22/2019 11:38:54 AM PST by SunkenCiv

Dr. Christopher W. Kerr is the Chief Medical Officer at The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, where he has worked since 1999. His background in research has evolved from bench science towards the human experience of illness as witnessed from the bedside, specifically patients’ dreams and visions at the end of life. Although medically ignored, these near universal experiences often provide comfort and meaning as well as insight into the life led and the death anticipated.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

Good point.

The skeptics have what seem to be fairly viable explanations for the subjective kind of near death experience.

But they’re completely silent when asked for a scientific explanation for the kind of NDE that can be verified objectively.

This isn’t a NDE, but something that’s been with me since 2001.

My best friend had cancer and was living in Oregon. I was in NYS, and we hadn’t seen each other in a couple years. Over the years, she had never been interested in anything religious or spiritual, and avoided the subject, but I worried about her and prayed for her.

When she died I was obsessed wondering if she had made the life-changing decision before she died, even though her daughter assured me that she had.

About a month after her death I had a dream that I was on the outside looking in (to Heaven, I assumed), and there she was, milling around, talking to people, and wearing her most beautiful pink mohair sweater. I watched for a while, and she looked over and noticed me, smiled knowingly, waved, and then continued to walk around this most vividly colorful and peaceful place.

I know it was just a dream, but believe it was given to me to put my mind at ease. I don’t remember dreams as a rule, but never forgot this one.

A couple of weeks after my mom died, my father was sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee when he saw a white shadowy figure floating across the next room. Then his dog saw it and starting growling at it. The figure then disappeared.

I don’t believe that UFO’s come from other planets or universes.

I believe that they enter our dimension from their dimension.

If ghosts and apparitions can enter our dimension why can’t objects?

Our departed loved ones don’t just put on angel wings and sit on clouds.

They continue their spiritual advancement and growth. They go to celestial universities and engage in futuristic research which sometimes passes into our dimension.

Jesus said that in His Father’s House there are many mansions.
Could mansions be dimensions?

Thanks for the replies, all, and keep it up. I've been impressed that this topic continues to be interesting and hasn't been taken off the rails and then either locked down or deleted.

Each and everyone of us will find out some day.

If we’re just walking meat sticks, upon death, everything will be gone. If not, we’ll see our spirit, conscienceness, spiritual being, whatever we become if we live past the body’s death.

That’s a great story. But I don’t agree with ‘just a dream’.

I dream every night, and remember something of all of them; so I know differences between the qualities of my dreams. The night after my father died, he came to me - looking like he did when he was young, healthy, handsome- as-the-day-is-long, and kissed me. I am certain that the dream came to comfort and reassure me. It was perhaps the most impressive and numinous dream I’ve ever experienced.

There are plenty of verses in the Bible which indicate that God instructs us through dreams.

"I do not have one airy fairy bone in my body."

LOL!

I think a lot of 'poltergeist' phenomena have taken place where adolescents are present, too. Maybe all sorts of 'energies' are presenting at that time.

You should do something like Art Bell’s annual Hallowe’en Night broadcast, ‘Ghost to Ghost’; you’d garner a lot of interesting stories.

(I believe that some of the most famous Bell shows were faked; but the Hallowe’en shows are very interesting for the stories that everyday, average people would call-in to share.)

I learned so much about marriage from my grandparents. They were truly one, always thinking of the other. My grandfather never left the house without kissing my grandmother goodbye. He was 6ft and she was 4’10”, so that kiss was usually on her forehead. I have often wondered if her soul stopped by his bed to say goodbye the night she died.
At the funeral home as he sat by her side in his wheelchair, I heard him whisper, “my pretty, pretty, girl, you were always my pretty girl.” That made me cry and I told my husband, “such love, he still sees her the way he saw her when they courted.”

Sure, there’s so much we don’t know.

Personal experience matters; I’ve seen “ghosts” but not UFOs.
So I believe in one and not the other.

That is so beautiful. You were so lucky to have an example of a stable, strong marriage. I’m envious:)

My father’s parents died before I was born, so I never knew anything about them. I’ve never even seen a picture of them and I will turn 49 years old next month.

My mother’s parents were married for several decades. In fact, my grandfather died only five months before my dad.

My grandfather was a good man but, sadly, he was also an alcoholic. My mother has told stories about how violent he could be when he was drunk. I could tell you some horror stories.

My grandmother was a faithful Christian and stayed with him until about two years before his death. Shortly after she moved out, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She moved back home and took care of him.

Thankfully, before his death, he changed his ways, stopped drinking and got saved. That was a huge relief to my grandmother, my mother and her brothers and sisters. He would even preach to his drinking buddies who would visit him, lol. He died with a clean conscience.

I am disabled, so I live with my mother to help her out and because it makes financial sense for us to share expenses.

Several years ago, we were living in a house behind my grandmother’s. One Sunday before Labor Day, my mother and her siblings visited my grandmother. It was very unusual for all four of them to be able to visit my grandmother on the same day due to their schedules.

They were sitting in my grandmother’s den talking about different subjects when, unexpectedly, my grandmother said calmly “I’m ready to go now.”

They didn’t know what to make of her statement and didn’t really think much of it so they kept up their conversations.

The next day, my grandmother died suddenly and unexpectedly. In the days after her death, my mother and aunt remembered those words and concluded that she was telling them that she was ready to die. We comforted ourselves in the fact that she seemed to be happy and peaceful when she made that statement. She knew.

I remember a strange incident a few weeks before my father’s death. I was the youngest and his “little girl”. One night, shortly before bedtime, my father called me to come into my parents’ bedroom. I came and I was surprised to see tears in his eyes. He sat me on the bed and hugged me tightly. He started speaking of his deceased parents and how much he missed them, which shocked me because that’s the first time that he had ever spoken of them. He also mentioned his deceased brother, who had also died before my birth.

I was a young child and didn’t exactly know what to say, so I just hugged him back and listened to him. His actions that night were so unusual and made me a bit scared. I stayed with him for a while then he sent me to bed because it was a school night. A few weeks later, he was dead. I’ve often wondered if he knew or suspected that he was about to die because he was definitely not one to get emotional.

Your grandparent’s story really made my night:) You were very lucky to have such a loving and stable example of marriage in your life. I had to grin when I read that your grandmother was 4’10” because that’s my height:)

Thanks again for the touching story!

If I make money selling tuna fish, I see tuna fish.

Not if you sell canned tuna fish.

The only sure-fire ghost I’ve seen- it could have only been a ghost- was on my way to work at 4:30am going down H3 Interstate in Hawaii which has a wide grassy median.

I wasn’t driving too fast, but slowed down even more when I saw what looked like a man -kind of lit up - about 100 yards from me walking uphill on that median. I kept looking at him, and as I got closer I could see him so clearly.

He looked like he was 90 years old, all dressed up in a black suit, white dress shirt and black tie and black tophat walking with a cane uphill. His eyes were ablaze looking straight ahead, taking no notice of any passing cars. He looked like he was determined to get someplace. There was an aura around his whole body.

There is nothing for miles and miles on that interstate. There was no place for him to go. I didn’t see any broken down cars. But when I looked back after passing him; he was gone . . disappeared.

I have also seen that light in a friend’s eyes hours before he passed away. His body weak, but his eyes looked alive and in a blaze. A light was dancing in his eyes.

I’ve also had a healing visitation from some light energy that I may post later.
I’ve also felt the presence of a loved one that had passed. I could feel his touch.
But as for seeing a “ghost” that was the only time on H3 interstate.
Bet you didn’t know Hawaii has interstates ha ha.

As Francis Bacon once said, “Man prefers to believe what he prefers to be true.”

So the challenge for us is to understand that truth is separate from the self, and to remove our passions from obscuring our vision of the truth.

An example of failure to meet this challenge is found in Freud’s preference to believe there is no Moral Law. He preferred to follow his own rules.

Interesting to note: Freud hated both absolute moral law and the aesthetic appreciation of music.

Anyway, Freud’s rejection of God was founded in his desire to make up his own rules. In my opinion, this is the most common thought process giving rise to atheism specifically and to naturalism more broadly.
