“Serious question. Is Fiona Hill a dude?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don’t quite remember the entire statement nor its context, but Hill said something during her testimony about having “a brogue” that she felt would inhibit her advancement in Britain so she came over here.
Do I have about right?
Perhaps “brogue” is code for something else that wouldn’t be socially acceptable?
I suspect what she said about her brogue is correct. The Britains tend to be very class conscious, and someone with an Irish accent or “brogue” would likely not be considered for their top positions. That would be my interpretation of her statement. Her Irish accent would probably truly hurt her career options.
I am unaware of other implications or innuendos the word “brogue” might have for messaging, although that is certainly a possibility.
The definition of a brogue is “a strong accent, or a heavy oxford shoe, or a shoe of untanned leather.”
