My box van, in which I kept probably 50% of my prepper supplies, was just broken into and everything of value stolen, including my biggest generator and solar panels. All kinds of propane-fueled gear and water filtration as well. Crap.

“No matter what happens practically, God and Nature will endure - and the most valuable ideas and values will always come back around and be triumphant”

Beautifully put!!

I enjoy prepping because it gets me back to thinking about a simple, self-sufficient lifestyle. I do it more for that, and if/when anything happens- from a natural disaster to power outage to revolution - I’m more prepared than I would be otherwise.

I had no idea. They look so classy!

I fired some kind of Beretta and another semiauto; and a revolver. Next to us at the range were a bunch of young black guys dripping in gold chains, practicing with big scary ‘assault’ rifles.

It was an interesting day, to say the least...

I like the idea of learning how to do and make things myself - the feeling of self-sufficiency and satisfaction with the final product.

I think that’s why I enjoy gardening. I love it when I make a salad from all my own produce. I actually think it’s easier and probably even cheaper to go buy it in the store! But I don’t have that level of satisfaction taking things out of a plastic bag.

Right now my lettuce has still been surviving the nighttime cold temperatures. I love fall gardening, less bugs!

One loony socialist woman that has a blog posted an article a few weeks ago about her idea that civil war is imminent. Then she went on to say she has put away 2 weeks worth of supplies for herself and her pet and she said everyone should do the same.

TWO WEEKS. So she believes the war she is convinced will happen soon will not only be over in two weeks but everything will be available by then too.

You might drop in at your local gun store and ask to see some small pistols in .22LR or 380. That’s what I did now that I am a million years old, and common sense requires me to step down from the 1911.

“No, I’m in Maryland. Been here all my life.”

I want some soft-shell crabs, expertly prepared. Maybe I’ll drive out and get some. After all, it’s all downhill from the continental divide, right?

Believe it or not, I’ve never had a soft shell crab; and the blue crab softshells are out of season now. But here’s a recipe:

I’d need a license for those.

Husband browsed the ‘youth’ rifles that someone suggested last night, and saw a Mossberg that he though might be a good ‘beginner’ item for me.

But I’m getting close to a million years old, too :-)

My acquaintance whose greyhound killed the deer said, “He’s a good dog, and getting old - but there’s still a lot of wolf in him”.

“...she has put away 2 weeks worth of supplies for herself and her pet...”

LOL. Pets are crucial. Gotta keep ‘em fat, just in case.

Seriously, though, hurricane Katrina was horrific— water & food everywhere, all of it contaminated; gasoline inaccessible, because the pumps don’t work; people with grudges, settling scores, murder victims floating in the floodwaters-— but still it was only a glimpse into what a complete societal breakdown looks like.

It took way more than 2 weeks to recover from that.
And that experience is what turned me into a dedicated prepper.

As it was, in the aftermath of the storm, gasoline, clean water & food were still accessible 50-100 miles away.

I simply asked myself, What If?

What if a much larger geographical area fell into similar anarchy? What if anarchy reigns in a 500 mile radius?
How would we get out safely? More importantly, how would we safely shelter in place for an indeterminate time?

Be well, FRiend.

I don’t think I’d want to eat cat or dog, no matter how hungry I was...

When prepping for a cat, it’s important that they have taurine; they don’t develop to create it on their own, like we humans do:

Well, when they get outside and smell the fresh air - Watch Out for anything that *Moves* :-)

They’re sight hounds - and need to be trained and controlled.

They just don’t look like something that would be a killer. But they do have the speed that is needed!
