Yeah.
And sometimes they die of it.
At the least they can get very sick and cats can throw up twice their own weight when they are sick.

Even if one thinks cats will be just fine (i would get rid of it if i had it for my little buddy), they say humans can also catch it from handling it.

No. Cats are very fastidious about their food preparation in the wild. That is why they are called “domesticated”.
