CLEVELAND  Sunday marks 44 years since the Edmund Fitzgerald sank near Whitefish Point in Michigan.

    Ive probably been to various places around Lake Superior at least two dozen times in my life. 
 I cant ever remember a time when I looked out across the lake and didnt get an eerie sense of foreboding.

    Im sure youre right. They called the storm that took the Andrea Gale The Perfect Storm but Im not sure the Fitzgerald wasnt in a prelude to that one. Just farther west. When you cant see the shore its a crap shoot with Mother Nature. Sometimes even if you can see a shore.

    The Lake Superior Marine Museum & Maritime Visitor Center in Duluth is worth visiting if youre up that way. The Edmund Fitzgerald isnt just a song up there.
