I’m sure an average Joe like myself is not one of those important sources to share with. I’m also sure they prefer to share with possible donors as a priority.

My ancestry is almost entirely Mennonite and Amish from Switzerland. Imagine my surprise when my sister did a DNA sample and it came back predominantly Scandinavian. I found out that Canton Berne where almost all of my ancestors came from was settled by the Burgundians and was a part of burgundy. The Burgands according to online sources were a Saxon Tribe that has its roots in Scandinavia. I think they probably predated the Vikings though. I suspect these Scandinavian countries are so sparsely populated because so many people left.
The Vikings were not just looking for plunder, they were collecting babes. Still going on today, it’s called sailors on liberty. A few more rules these days.

Let me translate for you.

We know this, been known for centuries. Some of us here are going back much much further and have been looking for nuggets of proof in everything related for the origin of Scandinavians period, from before anyone was even in the Baltic. For myself, I am a firm believer Heyerdahl was correct.
Had my DNA done this summer, and was surprised to find I have 3% Norwegian, and 2% Swedish ancestry. My father was born in Holland, and my mother was born in Canada. Those two percentages actually come from my mother’s side of the family, not my father’s. Her family lines go back to the 1100’s. I am also 70% English, Welsh, and Northwestern European. The last percentage is 25% Germanic Empire, which takes me back to German/Prussian Royalty, and also English Royalty. And the majority of that is from my mother’s side of the family. I was extremely surprised to learn of the Germanic Empire connection. On my paternal grandfather’s side of the family, I’ve only been able to go back to the 1600’s, and only to the 1700’s on my paternal grandmother’s side.

Yes, my DNA analysis came back with a majority British, then fine tuned to Wales; but, the second highest was "Scandanavian". When I told my husband that, his first remark was , "bloody Vikings".
I was so surprised by my results, as for my entire life I was told that I was German on both sides. When I got my results, my first question was, "who were these people"?

The Vikings were well on their way to conquering the world when someone reminded them that, once done, they’d have to administer it all.
That meant learning to read and write. And reading and writing reports.

It’s the Brits doing that. They know that they have a lot of Viking ancestry so they want to make them out to be peaceful. Add to that the rampant anti-Christianism of the elites (many of the extant written records of Viking raids were made by monks) and they have further motive to discredit the evidence.
I didn’t know they were trying to paint the Vikings as peaceful until I went to England a few years back. The only paper I’d read about the Vikings was about Orkney Island. Three Pict bodies (man,woman,child) were found in a trash midden in a destruction layer. Before the layer were Pict artifacts. After the layer were only Viking ones. Seems obvious to me what went on.
