I thought your autocorrect had changed “dog house” which in context would also make sense! LOL.
Never heard of a “doss house” meaning flop house or boarding house.
AFAIK the pod cubicle rent doesn’t include meals, so considering occupants have no space to store groceries, they must buy restaurant food every meal— adding significantly to costs.
Animals... not even a privacy curtain.
Did you ever spend any time in the military?
Thats my apartment! A small, comfortable cubicle. :)
The common kitchen and dining room is separate so everyone eats together.
Wouldnt be surprised if meals are included in the rent. I dont have to buy food and snacks.

As for these pod denizens, hope they wipe their shoes, thoroughly!
When my ancestors came to these shores in the 1630s, the home they built for themselves, the average then was 10’x 10’, was likely larger than this pod.
