Socialism, including greenie socialism, is always about blaming Those Greedy Capitalists for whatever hideous policies the government cooks up, which inevitably prompts an unintended consequence.
California's Gov. Gavin Newsom is right there with the best of them...taking northern California back to a state of nature and, in the full greenie spirit, telling us it's needed, necessary, all for our own good.
He said that determination is up to PG&E based on "their determination of what's in the best interest of their customers in partnership and consultation with the Office of Emergency Services, CalFire and experts in this field."
Ah, the best interest...and PG&E, not his policies, is the one that did it.
Actually, it's PG&E's best interest, given the leftist lawsuit lunacy that prevails in California, sufficient to drive PG&E into bankruptcy last January, now that any wildfire is the basis for a lawsuit against it.
Instead of telling Californians it's for their own good, Newsom should be blasting this legal situation and moving to change the law.
The real root of the problem, prompting the PG&E reaction, is the state's greenie laws, which, as AT contributor Tom Trinko notes, prevents the clearing of brush to prevent power equipment from catching fire and spreading wildfires. ... Apparently, no greenie law can be criticized in Newsom's purview, any more than Nicolás Maduro's laws against wreckers and hoarders can be blamed for Venezuela's currency collapse or structural shortages.
Newsom just claims that the people at PG&E has "finally woke up to their responsibility" on wildfire blame (of course they did they're liable for billions for past wildfires and bankrupt to boot) so nothing needs to be changed on the greenie laws. Hence the "need" to shut off power and return the state to greenie nature.

It is so difficult to get folks to understand the dynamics in CA concerning forest fires.
Even FReepers have limited foresight and on-hands knowledge.
Even after last years terrible fire the Greenie Weenies still have more sway over the forest than PG&E. PG&E has been screaming for years about the need to be able to cut down and/or trim back the areas under their lines. Yet so many, including normally clear-thinking FReepers, believe it’s better to assume it’s the fault of PG&E.
Now PG&E is so far behind the eight ball that they may as well as be playing pool in two separate buildings.
Sigh. Off my soapbox, for now.
“Now PG&E is so far behind the eight ball “
If they stsrt cutting today, how many years befor they get all the lines clear?
Right you are. In 2016 the legislature, despite being Democrat majority, overwhelmingly passed a law that would have allowed PGE to bypass red tape by working directly with municipalities to eliminate dangerous trees and brush near power lines, thereby reducing the risk of fires in a wind event.
Governor Jerry Brown vetoed the measure, I suspect because of campaign donations from trials lawyers, the Sierra Club, etc.
Free electricity for a year for volunteers.
Yeah, I know, people can't do for themselves anymore. Gotsta have duh goobermint do it.
Without any other assistance? Probably 5-7 years and that’s simply getting the major parts.
I really think if they were able to pull in workers from other electric utilities as well as some government funding for private companies...2-3 years. Start with the areas nearest the larger cities and towns, cut a firewall/breach and then on to the next area.
Rural fire departments would most likely be able to assist as well and I’m betting those fire departments would not mind helping because it will save lives and properties over the long haul.
The trouble will be the Greenie-Weenies. As far as I’m concerned those folks should be thrown in jail if they interfere under ‘causing harm to the general public, or some such clause.
It can be done. Really. Just look at the Build The Wall effort. Once folks who are determined to get it done and competent folks who understand the problem get together, almost anything can be resolved.
Agree with you all the way, whinecountry.
Follow. The. Money.
Works every time it’s actually tried.
I worry about all the people who are dependent on wells, and what this lack of power will do to the water pressure.
Maybe CA should take over PG&E and run it themselves, if they are so all-knowing?
And as a state agency, no lawsuits! The state is responsible for nothing!
That may be the only solution. Forest management has given way to preservation with predictable results. At least the state would have no one to blame except themselves. The results would be a disaster.
California is rushing headlong into a dark age!
Careful, America! Don't let the rest of America be dragged into it with them!
Look its that simple if you have solar panels and batteries you dont have to give a shiite about what The utility does
Or a pay them anything
Really? I don't read every thread but I find that hard to believe. Do you have any links?
LOL
I haven’t seen one person blame PGE.
