May you have grace from above to complete your withdrawal
He's a clinical psychologist. What you describe is common enough that it is a stereotypical snarky joke -- often made by psychologists themselves -- about people in the field. It is probably true that people are attracted to the field in the first place because they are trying to work things out, and their training reinforces the tendency. A clinician who routinely prescribes drug therapies for patients will be aware of the dangers, but he will also see such treatments as routine courses of action.
There is no human without skeletons in the closet.
Heck, I played in rock and roll bands for 10 years . . . .
Years ago I was prescribed Xanax for anxiety. It didnt take away the anxiety, just made me sleepy and having 4 little kids (oldest was in kindergarten) I got even more anxious that I would fall asleep during the day and something would happen to them. I threw it out after 2 doses.
I think that my problem was not anxiety, I think thats when I developed Graves Disease, but it wasnt diagnosed for 10 years.
Now, I think I am dealing with anxiety. I wake up with terrible headaches because I clench my jaw in my sleep. I have an physical in a few weeks and was going to ask my doctor whether its safe to take some herbal supplements for anxiety with the blood pressure meds Im on. Id like to not be dealing with stress and anxiety 24 hours a day.
Thank you for sharing the information about Xanax. I will be adamant that its not an option for me.
Really? I used that for back pain and now off and on for muscle pain when I've overused a particular joint. I take it when needed and stop when it isn't needed.

Psych meds kill.
Excellent post...!
Im beginning to see how extensive the influence of mind altering drugs are having on society. Ive been wondering why its becoming more difficult to reason with certain people and watching other people on TV. I made a comment about Beto might be on some mind altering drug.
Recently i was trying to get something across to a young rep at my insurance company.after giving up I spoke with another one. Same result
I had some success with a supervisor.
This experience is more common I am getting it into my mind to automatically get the manager
But they read from a script without listening or considering.
Sometimes I have to remind them they work for me. Thats not on their script sheet.
And they vote.
Yes and no. Yes, going cold turkey, suddenly stopping a medication without first consulting with a doctor can be very unpleasant at the least, and sometimes even deadly at the worst. But benzodiazepines are not opiates. It may be a distinction without a difference however in terms of their potential for addiction and withdrawal symptom for some.
After these “mass shootings” we never get a post mortum forensic toxicology report on the shooter. Never ever. Why?
Meloxicam is great for my arthritis. However because several previous blood workups showed some decreased kidney function probably because of my HPB (although my last work up was normal in all respects) I’m not allowed by my doctor to take more than 1 - 2 per week. But I find that even if I only take one a week, the pain in my arthritic foot and in my knees is greatly reduced for the entire week between doses.
Oh I do a post Morten assumption tox screen. Its positive for some unknown pharmaceutical Pharmaceutical companies and MDs will never let you know
My view is there are several common issues. Big issue: no mom. When I worked in a trauma unit in a metro area in the 90s the GSW victims- gang members -were wimped out in a hospital room all hooked up. Needy. I noticed they had no men visiting. No dads, uncles, step fathers no fake uncles.
That had to be a factor in their bad choices
Now thats the norm
But now these people have no moms. Women drop their kids somewhere as soon as the kid is six weeks
Infants need their mothers all day (or their fathers) at that age. They have no concept that they can see mom later. None
I know a grief counselor. She says the majority have unresolved grief to deal with
Antidepressants. Terri side effects.
If you’re a patient in need of a caregiver but your caregiver needs a caregiver, or is somehow incapacitated, then maybe the patient needs another caregiver until the originally preferred caregiver’s issues are resolved.
Different people react differently. When I went through a severe flair up of my lower back horrible jolting nerve pain along with extreme stiffness and spasms like Id never had before (imagine the very worst Charlie Horse youve ever had, the type that jolts you awake at night, now imagine that across your entire lower back and down your legs every time you make even the slightest movement and it going on for days, getting little to no sleep), yes it was that bad.
The orthopedic gave me an Rx for Percocet (1 every 6 hours) and Cyclobenzaprine Flexeril (1 every 4 hours). No, Cyclobenzaprine is not a Benzo but can be addictive for some and of course Percocet is one of those evil opioids. But thank god for them.
After about 4 days in my living room recliner in a bit of a stupor (as getting in and out of bed or up and down the stairs to get to my bedroom was out of the question) and icing for the 1st day followed by heat after that, I could finally get up and move around without screaming in pain. And Im fairly pain tolerant. Ive told people that I dont know if the Percocet really took the pain completely away or just made me not care, but in any case, I was glad it was prescribed.
After the 4th day I stopped taking the Percocet completely and only took a Flexeril or a half of one at bedtime as needed I didnt have any withdrawal symptoms from stopping the Percocet and had no urge to take them after most of the pain subsided. I had about 4 Percocet left and they sat in my medicine cabinet untouched until they expired and I disposed of them.
A friend of my OTOH, tore her ACL in a fall and had to have surgery. Her surgeon sent her home with an RX for Percocet, the same strength and dosage and I had gotten for my back. She took the Percocet also for 4 days but had a horrible time with withdrawal symptoms, anxiety, insomnia and severe constipation being the most noticeable.
I still use the Flexeril every once and a while when I feel the stiffness and soreness and the beginning of twinges of nerve pain coming on. But the best thing I found is doing stretching, lots and lots of stretching along with walking and core stability exercises.
Who’s taking care of the wife? Is this an excuse so he won’t have to?
The risk for stopping benzodiazepines cold turkey is seizures. Similar to DT’s. Unless you are on a low dose, stopping cold Turkey is always dangerous.
Yes, and that is why I and I also recommend to others that they get their medical advise from competent and well qualified medical professional and not from random people on the world wide interwebs or from people with blogs or pod casts : )
