WHAT the living HECK???? If this isn't proof that the mayor should NOT have control of the city schools, I'd like to see some. Teachers are afraid to discipline students for fear of being called "racist". What kind of baloney is that? This is a culture nurtured and promoted by DumblASSio and his evil commie henchman, schools chancellor Carranza. DumblASSio had Carranza run mandatory teacher seminars this past year, on the subject of "white privilege". White teachers have been vilified since this nutcase Mexican disease on two legs became chancellor, who claims they have white privilege and treat minority students worse than white students. What white students? White students now make up something like 15-20% of the once magnificent NYC school system. But academics have been thrown to the side in favor of "social justice" topics taking the forefront in being the main reason NYC's kids are in classrooms. They provide a captive audience for DumblASSio and his commie clown chancellor to indoctrinate them in shouting "RACIST!" as a solution for their every problem. I remember kids telling me, upon receiving their failed exams back, that the reason they failed was because the test was "racist"---not because they were out partying instead of studying the night before. Being "racist" or being accused of being "racist" is a new cudgel given to the kids to abuse their teachers and excuse their own poor behavior by these 2 mentally defective men. Neither one of them is qualified to clean up dog poop at the pound, let alone run a city or a large school system. This latest book should be ground up and force fed these 2 animals like geese being fed for foie gras. I don't support that cruel practice for geese, but for these 2, it's fitting. Stuff them with the garbage they meant for stuffing kids' minds full of garbage.

Remember sweet little Trayvon? His demise was a direct result of his school district (Broward Co, FL?) having a hands off of black kids policy. Burglary tools and jewelry was found in his backpack but the cops did nothing. The school did give him a few days of suspension and that’s why he was staying those few days with his father.

Broward Co, FL seems to have more than their fair share of problems. Can’t imagine why.

It doesn’t surprise me that NY has similar problems to what I saw as a teacher in California. Every time I disciplined a student I documented exactly what the offense and punishment was, so that administrators could see that I had given the exact same punishment for the exact same offense, regardless of whether the student was a white male or a black female. Every minute I spent covering my posterior in this way was a minute that was NOT being spent on lesson planning, contacting parents, or other actual productive work. There was also that lovely moment when a black student of mine said her father was going to come to school and beat me up. Fortunately it turned out to be an empty threat.

I later taught at an after-school program run by a church. It was as different from the public school as night and day. The pay was lower, but the smaller class sizes and the greater freedom made it worth it. The church was located in a majority Asian neighborhood, which meant that parents did not make excuses for their children and there was actual discipline in the home.

I still work as a substitute from time to time at the public school system. But you could not pay me enough to return as a full-time public school teacher.
