The era of mass media may have ended decades ago, but the hangover is about to hit us all hard. In The coming death of just about every rock legend, Damon Linker of The Week explores the rock & roll carnage to come:
Yes, we've lost some already. On top of the icons who died horribly young decades ago Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, John Lennon there's the litany of legends felled by illness, drugs, and just plain old age in more recent years: George Harrison, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Tom Petty.
Those losses have been painful. But it's nothing compared with the tidal wave of obituaries to come. The grief and nostalgia will wash over us all. Yes, the Boomers left alive will take it hardest these were their heroes and generational compatriots. But rock remained the biggest game in town through the 1990s, which implicates GenXers like myself, no less than plenty of millennials.
All of which means there's going to be an awful lot of mourning going on.
Behold the killing fields that lie before us: Bob Dylan (78 years old); Paul McCartney (77); Paul Simon (77) and Art Garfunkel (77); Carole King (77); Brian Wilson (77); Mick Jagger (76) and Keith Richards (75); Joni Mitchell (75); Jimmy Page (75) and Robert Plant (71); Ray Davies (75); Roger Daltrey (75) and Pete Townshend (74); Roger Waters (75) and David Gilmour (73); Rod Stewart (74); Eric Clapton (74); Debbie Harry (74); Neil Young (73); Van Morrison (73); Bryan Ferry (73); Elton John (72); Don Henley (72); James Taylor (71);

Im not sure how the rule would work. I guess if a replacement member was in it for 30 years and died, that would rule them out.
Chad and Jeremy are still alive and they started in 1962.
FYI, while Leonard Cohen’s music didnt remotely resemble rock ‘n’ roll, the Maestro was ANYTHING BUT a “cult status nobody” and I take ISSUE.
Harrrrummmph!
Remake, yes. Well done? To me, yes.

Jazz was already on life support by the late 30s.
A nasty website full of nasty people. Are you a member over there? What's your screen name?
My screen name there is arc anjil.
There was a guy over there. A genuine talent. He was generous in giving advice and help, but there were so many who didn't like him because he could actually play the guitar. He quit TGP.
It’s NEVER too late to take up an instrument, especially bass where knowing what *NOT* to play and utilizing the power of a few well chosen notes gets more appreciation than being able to play complicated stuff fast.
I like the analogy to golf. Can you start when you’re 60 or 70? Hell yes. Are you ever going to be a world-class professional? Probably not. can you get good enough in a year or two of serious study to be able to play with a group of friends on the weekend and have fun? Heck yeah.
It all depends on how one defines “Jazz” (or ‘rock and roll’, etc)
I saw Chick Corea last year, original ‘electrik’ band. It was excellent. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones opened and jammed with them. Someone is quite welcome to say that was, or wasn’t, “jazz”, I don’t give a used piece of toilet paper for their opinion, I liked it.
And btw, yes, Hollywood is on life support, and we've got the cord with the plug in our hands. This is an example of what one of my b-i-l's would call "tuneless ****". I tried it a half hour ago when it showed up in the YT related vids. Liked it. This ensemble is no more, the pianist went solo a few months ago.

I saw them this summer, absolutely amazing in Concert !!
Keith Richards shouldn’t be on the list, he will never die!
IIRC, Golden Earring is the longest-running rock band still going, they were founded in 1961. Still touring today with the same lineup since 1970.
I thought we couldn’t post Getty Images here. Is it allowed if its watermarked?
How did they miss David Crosby at 78? And Willie Nelson at 86?
Oh, didn’t know that?
It was really bad a few years ago: Prince, Lemmy, Bowie, Glenn Frey all pretty much in the span of a few months.
