I was supposed to be arrested 2 weeks ago

Posted on 08/29/2019 1:34:17 PM PDT by Kevin in California

This, according to the call I got from the SSA (since when did they start calling people? LMAO) telling me a legal lawsuit had been filed against me by the Federal Reserve Bank and if I didn’t call back the Federal Marshals by the close of the day, they were going to come and arrest me……LMAO!

There’s no end to the lengths these scammers will go to fraud/scam people. This call was an attempt to get my SS#. Nice try asshole! It’d be nice to meet one of these scammers in a back alley and fold their teeth back.

Anyone receive calls similar to this? This call came from a 985 area code which is Louisiana.

Yeah, I got one of those either early this week or late last week. I hung up on them.

A few years ago, I talked with a senior investigator in Washington with jurisdiction over this kind of scam.

There are several groups of criminals that use the same basic systems to run these scams. Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol phone system. They can generate any number they want to appear on your phone.

He said they set up in an apartment for 2-3 weeks, then move. Extremely difficult to catch.

I offered to let them put a trace on my phone and track them down. He seemed disinterested in that.

If I were president, one of my #1 priorities would be to track down and get these scammers.

I was getting calls about the student loan I had applied for. I usually hung up. Finally I waited to speak to someone. When the lady tried to go into her spiel I stopped her.
Told her I’m 66 years old and it was kind of late to go back and get the high school diploma I didn’t get back in the day so I probably wouldn’t be needing that student loan I never applied for.
She actually laughed and guaranteed to take my number off the call list.
Haven’t heard from them since.

Some lady called me and said, “Our records show that there is someone hard of hearing in your household.”. I said, “ WHAT? I can’t hear you.” I hear CLICK.

I answered the L/L phone at my parents house a while ago. The scam caller wanted to know if my parents had a particular make of car. The dead give away was the caller’s bad accent and I hung up without responding. This type of information is used to request credit reports and verifying identy for Obamacare and possibly SS online account creation.

You guys don’t understand. The number that shows on your phone isn’t their number. They use VOIP that allows them to spoof any number they want. There are reports of people even receiving these calls that come from their own number.

Blocking the number is useless. They just switch the number they’re spoofing. The only thing I’ve found to work is to put your phone in Do Not Disturb. Then allow exceptions from your contacts list. IOW, any call from your contacts will go through. All other calls go to voice mail. You do need to make sure you’ve updated your contacts list. Once I started this, my spam calls have dropped from 6-8 a day to 1 or 2 per week. These guys don’t have time to mess with voice mail so they hang up.

I get calls like that from time to time. I used to jack them around and waste their time. I also used to have a printout with curse phrases in Hindi. That would get them going. Shrieking and cursing me and hanging up.

Yep. Had to do with not reporting for jury duty or some such crime. The man on the phone sounded like a cop and spoke like a cop. Very convincing until he started instructing me to withdraw cash at the bank. BTW, they had my personal data. Later, called the number back and informed him (didn’t pick up) that I have a CCW and think twice before approaching me.

Unless I recognize the voice, I just hang up. I dont care what they want. They have so many damn computers calling now you can’t even threaten them any more. My friggin mortgage company keeps harassing me to refinance. The newer rate is not good enough to warrant paying to refi.

If, when called, I have to wait for someone to answer the other end of the call I usually hang up.

Sometimes I answer and use the hard of hearing routine.
“Who do you work for?” Repeated servial times.

One question I really like,”What are you trying to sell me?”

Sometimes I say,”I don’t have time to talk right now. When I hang up please call back and I will let it go to voice mail. Thank you, “

They sent me a check for $2800, told me to deposit it in my account, then go to Walmart cans buy gift cards for $2400 and keep the remaining $400 for my time.
Shhhhh
I was a secret shopper.
I sent them on the wildest goose chase you can imagine.

Problem is that the regular criminals often sound like the government criminals.

Yes, my wife and I are both on the backlogged arrest list too.

We have at least six years of IRS arrest warrants, a couple of Social Security warrants and as of a couple weeks ago our IPod account (whatever that is) and Microsoft account(?) have been suspended due to fraudulent activity.

They are also happening on cell phones as well. Im getting around 2 to 4 calls per day. I block the numbers and they call back with new digit. Count your blessings if you are not getting them...yet.

Yeah, they are hitting both my land line and cell phone, usually between 9AM and 1PM. I will sometimes play the scared old weeping sad receiver of the call, pretend Im crying then hang up. I have also pretended saying “...oh my God, there’s a tornado!” then scream and hangup. But, it would be nice to know their address. I would love to request Veterans in their location to visit them.

I use the app “Should I Answer” on my android phone. Very effective. Thousands of numbers a day are added to its block list. Very innovative setup.

The land line is VOIP. Cheap ($19.95 a month) with a gazillion features and some nice blocking options. One of which is a robo call killer. When someone (or something) calls, their server picks up and instructs the caller to press a key to continue. If that isn’t done it ends the call. Bingo, I get NO robo calls now. None.

I’ve had this VOIP service for about 8 years and it’s been rock solid. Here it is for anyone interested:
