Brother just got the shingles (high stress life caught up to him). It's limited to a small area but it smarts a lot.
Once it clears up (weeks? months?), he's thinking of getting the latest vaccine (me too). Has anyone taken it?
Any advice on how he can get through this?
Finished 2 shot series a few months ago. Shoulder was very sore and had flu like symptoms for a day after shots but better than getting shingles.
My husband has had shingles and it was horrible. He was fortunate that it was not on his face but the neuropathic pain he dealt with for months was just awful. He has had the shots. He got the first one years ago and then, the newer set more recently. He says he can occasionally feel the tingle where it would have started up again. It is nerve-wracking.
As soon as they OK’d the newer vaccine for 50+, I got it. I was lucky in that I was able to get injections done. I had no side effects except my arm was really sore.
Shingles is something I would not wish on anyone (well, almost anyone)
Flu shot no effects, hepatitis nothing shingles omg
Had the original shot a few years ago. Haven’t got the 2nd one yet...which is a two shot series by the way. No adverse affects from the first. Had shingles in the 60’s and it’s a bitch. Wife got it on forehead recently and fortunately it didn’t get to her eyes...that could have meant blindness. I’d say get the newest shots.
I had mine from my right eye up except for one sore in the middle of my nose. I was 60+ and have many scars. Itching in my eyebrows all the time.
No fun at all and hope it never comes back.
I had the shingles on my face. The first symptom was a severe pain in my right eyebrow. The other day I got that same pain. I went straight to the drugstore and got a big bottle of Lysine dosing myself. I may have been paranoid but I did not to get the shingles again. I think lysine is a good preventative. Lysine cream works on cold sores which is also a form of herpes.
My husband and I had the shots in the spring of 2018 and so far, neither of us has gotten shingles. My arm was sore after the first one (there are 2) for a day or two but that was about it.
Thanks everyone for the information!
Interesting. The sibling was almost 8 when I was born but was there for the next 9 - 10 years.
Please tell me the name of the silver biotics you recommend. Thanks.
I had shingles some years ago and it was one of the most painful afflictions I’ve ever had! Lasted several months mostly around the waist area. The ONLY thing that helped the pain eventually was Gabapentin my Dr. finally prescribed when nothing else worked.
Last year, I got a small spot of shingles about 6 inches under my arm.
My whole rib cage hurt on that side.
The only thing that worked for me was this
Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel 1%
Manufactured by Novartis
My husband just got a second bout of it within 5years. Jy son got it when he was in his 20s.
Kutapressin (sp?) is something my old doctor( passed away now) used to treat shingles with. It worked for other stuff too.
Vaccines dont work
Colloidal silver kills viruses. Shingella is one
PLease be sure to tell us how you refused a relieving treatment when you you get this virus.
Your tough. We all know this.
Therapeutic dose of L-Lysine is 7-8 grams (7000-8000 mg) daily, spread over the day. It will get rid of the shingles quickly... quicker than about any other treatment. I know, I’ve had a couple of cases. You’ve got to take the full amount until your well cleared up. Don’t stop too soon.
Then a maintenance dose is 1-2 grams /day. I’ve been following this regimen since I had the last case of shingles years ago, and I’ve not had a problem again. L-Lysine kills many different viruses, including herpes.
L-Lysine is cheap and effective. You can’t “overdose” on it. It basically is an amino acid that the body needs to fight off viruses. There are no side effects, unlike the stuff the dr.s prescribe or recommend. It really works.
My reaction to the second shot have been going on for over a year, though it is a bit less persistent.
Burning and intensely itchy red streaks appear at random all ovre my body though they apps mostly on my arms and legs. If I give in a scratch them, they immediately turn into hives and the itching gets unbearable. They then turn into bruises.
Personally, for me the shot reaction was worse than the shingles.
So what has been the incidence of shingles in the adult population?
as a child I remember hearing two incidences of adults with shingles both distant.
I am reading one half million in a population of 320 million
So if there are 100 million over age 45 the incidence is approx. 1/2 percent. I understand that the incidence rises with age. but I have not been able to find any exact figures
Ok
