Anyone have experience with Windham AR carbon fiber lowers? Dependable? Maintenance issues?

Thanks.

What advantage would it have over aluminum?

Surely there are reviews online. Windham is owned by the guy that grew Bushmaster and sold it. I imagine his receivers are as good as they can be. I’ve always thought that you could make a lower out of about anything.

Well.....a single layer might be a bit fragile. Can you build a graphene laminate?

Might need something moldable or millable for that application. You could do it in layers, I suppose. I’ve handled a couple of super light ARs. They’re different, but I don’t find aluminum objectionably heavy, and it’s economical.

There’s been a few polymer and/or carbon fiber lowers out there.

Personally, the slight weight difference in an aluminum lower is well worth it for proven durability. On the polymer/carbon fiber ones, there have been instances of some cracking.

Looks like they’re cheap enough, but I wouldn’t buy one.

I had experience with one from Bushmaster, which I think was made back in the old days of Bushmaster.

No problems with the receiver, but in a quest for overall lightness the receiver was paired with a thin “pencil” barrel, which did not maintain accuracy as it heated up.

Don’t have it any longer.

FWIW- I think Bushmaster made the Carbon-15 lightweight AR. There's one for sale here locally I was looking at, for a friend of course. But a quick search brought up cases of them having cracking issues and s'posedly BM started making them from a different material. Nothing validated, just what I saw.

This and $1 will get you coffee @ Hardee's. d;^)
