The best and worst US airports for 2019 have been revealed - and it's San Diego International in the number one spot.
A new study ranks 50 of the busiest hubs in America, taking into account the following factors - airport amenities, how quickly the airport can be reached and the punctuality of departures and arrivals.
Coming second in the list is Phoenix Sky Harbor International - which was top last year - with Chicago Midway International rooted at the bottom.

When I had a connecting flight in San Diego a few years ago, I had to go outside the secured area and go through security again to change planes. And both were with Southwest.
Newark has got to be the worst.
Atlanta and Miami are two airports I despise.
JFK has the same issue. There is a train to transfer from one terminal to another but it is outside the security zone. Frankfurt has that issue. I transferred at Frankfurt, never left the airport but had to go through security again.
I was flew in and out of Orlando while on vacation last April. I really didn’t find it all that bad.
Getting in and out of the airport was relatively easy - even by Orlando traffic standards. It seemed, at least by the terminal I was in, to have decent enough amenities. Getting to and from your flight while at the airport was no big deal. Security was a mild pain at worst - no better or worse than other airports I’ve been in since 9/11.
san diego is packed in between the city and the ocean approach borders downtown.
The marines would move missions from Mira Mar into Pendleton and let the country have the land and runways for a major new international import good for the next century.
The city and county could develop the current airport into a nice new Mariina development with multi-use and boat docks.
marine SHOULD
I like the smaller airports... like Burbank, West Palm Beach, etc. Such a pleasure when we can use them instead of the bigger ones.
It’s not (it’s #34), but it should be ranked just above O’Hare.
Both are cesspools.
San Diego? I guess they didn’t include the Southwest gates in Terminal 1, cramped and dumpy.
While reading this article, I noticed the absence of the name Lindbergh Field for San Diego’s airport. A further search revealed that the name was changed a few years ago.
Political correctness strikes again.
Toledo Express. I would have chosen that over Detroit Metro any day of the week.
If I could add nonstops from Phoenix to Palm Beach, FL (get it done, Delta!) and any major Asian city, my work travel would become much, much easier. :)
San Diego is FAR from number 1.
The only positive is if you are staying near the harbor, its a 10 min ride to the hotel.
The airport is very very small, parking is a nightmare and you have non-stop flights to only about 4 cities.
I though suburban homeowners nearby blew a gasket over that idea a while ago. It would still be better for them than having F-18's blasting overhead every day, but knowing California suburbanites they will probably demand that the whole facility be turned into a dog park. :)
on the side of a building into the airport there is a large mural of Lindbergh and the plane. Didn’t know they dropped his name.
Lindbergh Foundation and awards.

Yes
I live between Boston and Providence RI.
Boston’s Logan Airport is an absolute nightmare the second you put the keys in the ignition.
Providences T.F. Green airport is like a dream come true in comparison.
In and out like it was nothing....no nazi MA state troopers hassling you, no crazy security lines. long walks etc..at least whenever i’m there.
PLUS it’s a southwest airlines hub.
San Francisco (SFO) is not bad, especially once the current International Terminal opened in 2000. They’ve redone many of the terminal areas, and it’s now a lot nicer airport than it used to be. And SFO now has BART access directly into downtown San Francisco, too.
Agreed — small airports are almost a pleasure. My personal experience is with the Palm Springs and Tucson airports, both first-rate. Casual, easy-going, well-run.
