I’m not trying to force the idea that it’s a countdown, ......
but if you remember the space launches from the 60s and 70s, the T stands for “time”. They would always say things like “T minus 40 minutes and counting.” We only heard the last few minutes because that’s all that was broadcast, but countdowns started days before the actual launch.
So IIRC, it could be “T minus 5 days and counting” or similar.
Apparently setting a public clock and letting it run is a very efficient team motivator. Nobody wants to be the bottleneck that caused the countdown to be paused.

Some prominent people in our political media are behaving in a feral manner against those who don’t share their strongly held views. And it’s only August 2019. They are defiant against journalistic improvement or any tamping down of their incitement or rhetoric. Scary situation.
