In Netflixs Another Life, released July 25, just about everything that can go wrong on the mission does. Including an unintended pregnancy, which the show uses as a chance to push abortion, through euphemisms, of course, in its season finale.
Sometime in the future, an alien artifact has landed on Earth. A crew, led by Niko Brekinridge (Katee Sackhoff) has been sent aboard the Salvare to investigate why the aliens have come. With crew members living in such close quarters to one another on a spaceship, theres bound to be some sexual tension. The chemistry between August (Blu Hunt), Oliver (Alex Ozerov), and Javier (Alexander Eling) is particularly palpable.
In Episode 5, A Mind of Its Own, August kisses both men, which leads into her having quite the passionate threesome with them in Episode 8, How the Light Gets Lost. Even though the crew was presumed to have been sterilized after being hit with radiation to kill off a deadly virus in Episode 3, Nervous Breakdown, August ends up pregnant by Episode 10, Hello.
Transgender medic, Zayn (JayR Tinaco, who goes by the pronouns ze/hir), notices August has had a particularly heightened sense of smell. Not only does Zayn deduce she is pregnant by testing her, but Zayn tells August abortion is an option, through quite the euphemism:
Zayn: August? August. Im ready. [administers pregnancy test] Okay, open up. Well be done before you know it. Okay. This probably isnt what you wanted to hear, but you are pregnant. Its still very early days, and there are simple, non-invasive ways to restore your periods, if thats what you want.
August: What I want?
Zayn: Think about it. Consult with the father, if youd like, but ultimately this is your choice, okay?
What, exactly, goes into these simple, non-invasive ways to restore your periods? Viewers are not made aware, though it would seem in the future abortion is not only still practiced, but also still dressed up in euphemisms.
One of the potential fathers, Javier, also eludes to August having an abortion. He thinks hes being helpful, but is really dehumanizing the life inside of her, a life which he may have helped create.
August: Well, I discovered that Im pregnant.
Javier: Oh. Did you?
August. Im serious. Im pregnant, and one of you is the dad. I dont know what to do, or what-what can we do?
Javier: Uh, you dont have to keep it if-if you dont want to.
August: I know I dont. But is that right, after so many people have died?
Oliver: Yeah, but William said that I mean, the radiation--
August: Yeah, well, William was wrong.
August is at least open to having an abortion, and her reasoning why she wouldnt have one is something else - an odd way to commemorate the five crew members who have died, some of them through pretty gruesome means.
We also dont know by episodes end, which is the last in the season, if August has the abortion or keeps her baby. Perhaps the show was hoping to keep it as a cliffhanger while looking forward to a season 2. With the shows dismal reviews (a 7% on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.5/10 on IMDb), viewers might never find out if the show gets aborted.
I watched this show. I love sci-fi and kept hoping it would get better, but it didn’t.
If it does get renewed, I won’t be watching!
I dont understand why were losing money?!
Gilette:me either!
Note to Netflix. Two men and one woman is not a threesome. It is a gangbang.
This show looked promising. It had a neat premise.
About 10 minutes into it, you learn that its nothing more than an SJW wet dream on a spaceship. Completely frigging pathetic.
I’m not one to whine about profanity, but they take it to the next level on this show.
Also, the shehe on that show needs to shave its face.
“About 10 minutes into it, you learn that its nothing more than an SJW wet dream on a spaceship.”
Not exactly Battlestar Galactia
actually at this point? I’d take “Jason of Star Command”

I watched it... While I’m able to overlook the obvious SJW stuff... My question is.. what do you expect?
The entire entertainment business is pushing the exact same thing in EVERY new television show and movie. Not just on Netflix, but EVERY SINGLE SHOW AND MOVIE... it has to have at least one homosexual, one unintended pregnancy, and at least one person from every race.
Its been that way for a long time. Your choice is to stop watching TV and going to the movies, and just stick with old re-runs of the Andy Griffith show.
I wont be watching!

We call it “Millennials in Space.”
It’s awful. But the worst part is: it’s believable. These people are the logical result of a woke society. For starters, their space force is undisciplined and much of the drama in the show issues from that.
Yes, I agree. Undisciplined, whiny brats complaining most of the time and doing stupid stuff.
So true—I was watching one show (forget which one) and the wife says to the husband “I have something to tell you”.
I turned to my wife and said—”Betcha she’s pregnant.”
I called it.
These script writers are pathetic!
I’d rather have all few episodes of Quark.
I watched that as a 70s kid.
why would Katee Sackhoff agree to star in such an abysmally-written series.
Crusade died before it got a real chance to run and recycled bad Sci Fi keeps going.
I haven’t watched that far in the series. One episode every couple days is about all I can handle. I only keep watching because it is so BAD that it’s hilarious.
So it’s not exactly a surprise that they bring up a plot point straight out of “Days of Our Improbably Weird Lives” and then proceed to handle it badly.
That show was awesome. That and “The Secret of Isis” :-) .
“Not exactly Battlestar Galactia”
I thought Katee Sackhoff had better taste in roles ... I can’t believe she agreed to be on “SJW Wagontrain through the Stars”.
Every single frigging Netflix show REQUIRES each element from LGBTQ anymore. It is getting so frigging old. Can’t these liberals see that its pandering?!?!?!
Instead:
Restore life-affirming morality.
They were, "to bring on menses".
All that is old is new again.
