A black moon is basically the second new moon of the month, something that rarely occurs. It works similarly to a Leap Year.
A lunar cycle typically takes about 29 days to complete, but our months are slightly longer.
So sometimes, about every 32 months, we happen to get two full moons or two new moons.
The second full moon in a month is called a blue moon, and the second new moon is called a black moon.
But a black moon also refers to a month where there are no new moons which is only possible in February because of its fewer days.
This is less common than the other type of black moon, and occurs about once a decade.
What will I see during a black moon?
Honestly, probably nothing.
A black moon is really just a new moon, the only real significance is that its the second one.
So you wont even see the moon, because it will blend in with the sky.
The moon is also going to be a supermoon, meaning the moon will appear bigger than usual because its closer to the Earth, but because its a new moon you still wont be able to really see it.

I hear hurricanes a blowin'
And I know the end is coming soon
I fear rivers overflowing
I hear the voice for rage and ruin
These lyrics also sound like something AOC or Nancy Pelosi could have written--See post #14 in this thread.
Lost in the shuffle, Ive drifted and strayed,
Bruised by the city, bewildered, betrayed.
With a heart heavy laden, with faltering stride,
I have come to the bridge, to the line that divides.
What am I doing up here in a daze as I gaze at the cold riverbed?
Why do I ask myself, "Shall I go back?",
When I seem to be going ahead to
Black moonlight,
Where everything reflects your color,
Darkness that is endless,
Nights that leave me friendless, blue.
Black moonlight,
You make the lights of Harlem duller,
Just like me you're faded,
Jaded and degraded too!
Why must you send ebony moonbeams,
Depressing, distressing, like shadows of loves that are gone?
Where will it end?
Will it spread on to the starlight, the sunlight
And darken the promise of dawn?
Black moonlight,
Ive lost all power to resist you.
Madly, I await you even though I hate you,
Black moonlight.
Will it still happen if it’s cloudy?
Dunno what all that means, but I do know it be racisssss.
According to a show I just watched it’s also a bad time to go swimming around sharks.
Not that it’s an issue up here in the Appalachians.
:)
All these black moons and NO white moon? Damn, I am SO offended by this crap.
Sounds like cultural appropriation to me.
Or
Dang racist moon, wearing blackface.
Either way, some stuff gotta burn tonight.
It’s also Lammas Night.
Keep your pets inside.
People may steal and do bad things to them.
Ooof! I try to forget ELP post "Works". But "Affairs of the Heart" is classic Lake. And I do like to bang out "Close to Home" on the piano now and then.
I have read some stupid articles but this one is in the top 10
No offense to the poster, after reading the excerpt I knew I had wasted enough time
Dummy Perez is right. “Climate Change” is screwing up the universe. ROTFL.
I learned something new! Thanks for posting this. I have never heard of a black moon.
Black Moon is the generally considered to be the ABSENCE of a full moon in a month, not two full moons in a month, and can only occur in the month of February. . . Although some people mistake it for that, it is only a regional colloquialism. A BLUE Moon is the term most commonly used for the second full moon in a month.
I ain’t afraid of no ghost.
Technically speaking, the new moon tonight occurs at 11:11 PM EDT; if you use UT (Zulu), it would be the first new moon of August, which would make the second one at the end of August the black moon.
Anyway, I’ll go back to eating my Lammas bread and maybe take in the DNC comedy show
No. It will be rescheduled to another night when it can’t be seen.
