'Prank' sent teacher to hospital fighting for her life after allergic reaction
ABC 6 Columbus ^ | July 29, 2019 | Lisa Rantala

What may have been considered a prank by a group of middle-schoolers could have cost an art teacher her life. All of the students involved are just 12 and 13 years old, but school security said they were well aware their teacher had a serious allergy when it was used against her last school year.

"That could be attempted murder," a Columbus City Schools (CCS) security officer is heard telling Columbus Police officers in a body camera video. The call about the attack came from Starling K-8 school last November. On the video, the security officer is seen escorting police to the art teacher's door where signs stating "Banana Free Zone" are posted. Another sign instructs students to wash their hands if they've eaten a banana that day.

Is that how you feel about your students’ families? But...I am certain you are very professional and that attitude would never be communicated to your students.

So Sorry! ...I posted to the wrong person. My previous post was not a comment about you.

It is interesting. When children do not do well, it's the parents’ fault. When they do well, teachers take the credit. Go figure! ( sigh!)

It is my observation that all academically successful children are homeschooled. They are either homeschooled after school ( AKA “after schooling”) or are completely homeschooled.

The only useful things schools do is send home a very expensive curriculum for the child and parent to follow in the home.

To: If You Want It Fixed - Fix It

If they can read and write and calculate, they have all the tools they need to teach themselves for the rest of their lives.

The real value of homeschooling is the teaching them responsibility and work ethic and integrity.

That will get them far further in life than the best academics with no practical how to knowledge of what to do with all that learning.

Our local private school panders to parents and their $$$$.

This is a well-known issue. SAT and ACT scores of students in private schools are higher than that of public schools, but not that much higher. Many of the private school teachers are former public school teachers who basically couldn't take it in public school, so they accepted the lower pay and lower benefits of teaching in a private school. Grade inflation is massive in both public and private schools. If the kids are getting A's the parents don't complain.

Private school students also end up needing remediation. You can find statistics in various places. http://www.maciverinstitute.com/2019/01/students-from-196-wisconsin-high-schools-needed-remedial-classes-at-uw-system/

Colleges really only care about enrollment and sucking up all that student loan money. They love remedial classes because it keeps students enrolled longer. Most colleges don’t really care about graduation rates. They push teachers to give away inflated grades and pass students who don’t deserve to pass, too. http://professorconfess.blogspot.com/

Those two sentences kind of cancel each other out, though, don't they?

No, not with the amount of remedial courses offered. Colleges have students taking classes that do not count towards graduation (such as remedial courses and other non-academic courses). Many colleges also charge the same for 12 credits/semester as they do for more, but students will not graduate in four years at 12 credits/semester. All they want is enrolled students. Most students do not graduate from four year programs in four years, which greatly inflates the cost of college in any situation unless you are paying only per credit.

There’s no mistake about what happened. It was clearly intentional.
