What may have been considered a prank by a group of middle-schoolers could have cost an art teacher her life. All of the students involved are just 12 and 13 years old, but school security said they were well aware their teacher had a serious allergy when it was used against her last school year.
"That could be attempted murder," a Columbus City Schools (CCS) security officer is heard telling Columbus Police officers in a body camera video. The call about the attack came from Starling K-8 school last November. On the video, the security officer is seen escorting police to the art teacher's door where signs stating "Banana Free Zone" are posted. Another sign instructs students to wash their hands if they've eaten a banana that day.

My wife is deathly allergic to seafood. If she gets something that has been fried on the same grill or in the same oil as fish or prawns it can cause her all sorts of difficulties up to making her airway swelling shut.

Well the school's website comes in English, Spanish, French (?), Nepali, Somali, and Arabic versions, so that's a start....

When I read the school was Starling, I knew the ethnicity of the frankly evil perps. I certainly don’t give them a pass due to their young ages. Just shows their “bad seed” aspect. Starling has been a ghetto school for 50 years or more. I hope these would-be murderers get the maximum penalty. And I hope the teacher will be OK and get a transfer to a better school.
“Cross-contamination” in the kitchen can be just as lethal as eating the offending food.
Best to alert the wait staff immediately.....some restaurants have become very aware of the issues with allergies.

If there's one group of people who utterly do not care about teachers, it's parents. Parents would make us work for free in chains, if they could, and would expect us to be grateful for the honor of serving their precious children. Their retirement plan for us would be rather similar to what happens to old racehorses (keywords: bullet, dogfood)

I thought the unions are who we blamed for making it so hard to fire teachers? I’m sorry, I have been a teacher for 15 years now. The union leaders are pretty keen to get money, but they do help protect us from the parents, who would cheerfully burn us at the stake to expiate their own failures at raising their kids.
Being that sensitive, perhaps you shouldn’t take a job in a school or any place with a cafeteria.
They’re not protecting you from the parents, they’re protecting their investment in you.
BTW, there’s a very long waiting list for every private school in my area. That’s not all due to negligent parents of publik skrewl students.

I don’t care why they are protecting me, I’m just glad they are, because no one else will. As for private schools, you’ll find that the teachers are all former public school teachers. Private schools won’t hire you unless you’ve done a few years in the public schools first. So... it’s all the same teachers. What’s different is the kids and parents.
