That is one possibility. I don’t have kids but I have heard car rides can make them go to sleep sometimes when nothing else will.

If this wasn’t done on purpose; I don’t see how this guy could ever come to terms with it. The weight of the guilt would destroy anyone with a working conscience.

The time I have spent around babies; they tended to be noisy. That’s why I’m having a hard time believing anyone could just forget them like that.

Not buying it.

There’s no way you could forget you have children in your car like that.

He murdered them.

Where does this genius think his kids were? With Mom? This moron should not be walking the planet!

I work for myself out of the house and mom stayed at home. We had twins. As infants (and their toddler brother) we were both pretty tired out. TWICE I paid for groceries and left the cart at the store! Only realizing upon getting home that I left them there. (Both times it was after midnight.)

One time driving somewhere in the minivan I glanced in the mirror - and the two baby seats were empty!!! OMG - I forgot them at the.... oh wait, they are at home with mom. I never drove the van unless I had the kids with me - that feeling of seeing those seats empty and thinking I had forgotten them somewhere - I can still feel in my gut, 20 years later.

All said though, I have a really hard time believing that he forgot the kids were in the car. I’m guessing his coworkers will be questioned on what his behavior at work was that day.

So sad for those kids.

Certainly is. That’s why I was referring to a post that said “the kids.”

So you think if one of the twin’s car seats had been in the front seat, he would have still forgotten them?

Come to think of it, these twins were 7 months old. My first two screamed as infants. A 7-month-old might not scream as much. Yes, maybe the car ride rocked them to sleep, plus the car seats face toward the back of the car.

Agreed - if this was truly a mistake, I can’t imagine the horror and the pain, either. I don’t know how a parent could live with it.

"The child is asleep in the backseat, can’t be seen in the rearview mirror and not making a sound."

The trick for that is to put something you'll need on top of or next to the kid - for a man, his cellphone/briefcase/lunch; for a woman, her purse. How could they ever forget the kid if they would do that.

I’ve read that younger men now want to marry women who will stay home with the children.

But not in my generation. Our men wanted us to work (at least all the men I knew). Many women wanted to stay home with the babies, but the husbands wanted that second paycheck coming in.

I didn’t want to hand my baby over to strangers, but my now-ex was worried about money. So, I did the math and showed him the numbers: Daycare would cost most of my paycheck. But, if I worked part-time, we would avoid daycare and I’d actually bring home more money. That’s what all parents should do - the math. Believe it or not, some moms are working to pay daycare expenses. A part-time gig while dad spends time with the kiddos sometimes brings in more money without the daycare expense.

Still, the best model is for mom to stay home with the babies while dad works. All this driving back and forth to daycare and work must be confusing. Otherwise, I can’t understand how anyone forgets a baby in the car.

There have been something like 21 of these deaths this year. I wonder why you rarely if ever hear about kids being left in a freezing car in the winter?

I was in the grocery store with my youngest in the basket lying down.....at this store, you pushed the cart behind the counter and retrieved it at the other end after everything was charged.....the gal handed me my groceries in a small bag and off I went......didn't realize I left my little one in the cart until my husband who was waiting in the car with the other kids put his hands up "what's up?.....

stupid....preoccupied...lack of sleep.....who knows why things happen....

You have two 7 month olds in car seats in the back seat and neither one babbles or fusses on the drive to work or after he parks and he gets out? His wife, who I assume put them both in the car, didn’t call during the day to ask how it went when he dropped them off at daycare? Because I assume this was not his routine. And wouldn’t the daycare call the mother to ask if the twins weren’t coming in that day? Because I assume if you weren’t bringing them in you would call and let them know. There was no communication at breakfast she was putting the babies in the car and he was to take them to daycare because she couldn’t that day? That’s assuming she put both babies and both diaper bags in the car by herself. It doesn’t add up, not in the least.

why don’t people stick a simple post it note on their dash board “kid(s) in back seat”?

There's a meme going around the Internet telling people to put something "important" (laptop, cellphone, wallet,) in the back seat with the kid, something you'll need at your destination. That way, you'll go back to your car to get the item and will realize your kid is there. But every time I've seen that meme, people have gone ballistic over it, thinking it's saying that some item is "important" while a kid isn't.

I’ve read that younger men now want to marry women who will stay home with the children.

That's good news. For a long time, I've been reading that men considered stay-at-home wives to be "leeches" and that young girls were afraid to tell the men they dated that they wanted to stay home with their future kids.

You've got that right. He,particularly,is a candidate for alcoholism and/or suicide. In fact, his wife is as well.

My sister lost her 18 year old daughter in a drunk driving accident 4 days before Christmas (the other guy was drunk, not her). She was *NEVER* the same. She died two years ago from early onset Alzheimer's...the one blessing is that she eventually forgot that she ever had a daughter.
