Yup. It makes so much sense as a strategy, at least if you are sure you control the media, and don't care about morality, and don't care about how you're seen by history (because your pals are going to write the history books), and know your side controls the major institutions of a culture.

Think about what the strategy buys you:

1. puts your enemy (us) on the defensive right out of the gate
2. gives your rabid supporters something to beat your opposition over the head with at the retail level
3. causes oversight organizations like law enforcement to go after you instead of them
4. muddies the water and sows confusion for the future
5. potentially distorts history in your favor by pre-packaging an alternative story for friendly historians to put down in books
6. generally wastes everyone's time while you move on to the next line of attack (drive-by media)

The Dems were working with high-level Russians at least since the Steele dossier, and also through Russia's people in the Ukraine. And long prior when you consider the many things the Obama-Biden-Hillary admin did while in power to help strengthen the Russians' hand, including Obama's promised and delivered "flexibility" on missile defense, the New Start nuclear treaty, the Putin-loving Iran deal, and of course the Obama-Hillary Uranium-One deal, where O-H allowed the Russians to grab control of 20% of our uranium production. So the Dems have long been in cahoots with Putin and the Russians for long time. Putin must be really pissed that his girl lost. President Trump has just about undone every dangerous deal Obama admin made with the Russians. He's also significantly rebuilt our military, as opposed to Obama's deliberate attempt to minimize it greatly.

Switch Russia? It was the Russians who the Dems were mostly conspiring with to help Hillary during the 2016 election. Prior to that the Obama-Biden-Hillary admin bent over backward to help strengthen the Russians militarily, be it on missile defense, the New Start nuclear treaty, the Putin-loving Iran deal, the O-H Uranium-One deal, on and on.
