Is this standard procedure, to tell people to delete vids & pics of this sort of thing?

Yes it is normal procedure. When a C-130 at Fort Bragg in 1988 or 87 crashed doing a tank extraction exercise in front of crowd from the 82d Abn Div they took media devices and removed anything. It happened at State as well when I was there.
