This fear is misplaced.
Computers are not ever going to gain human-like consciusness.
The ACTUAL FEAR should be for what is ALREADY HERE: Humans are forced to dumb down to the level of computers, to be measured against the only things computers do well ... rapid computations, carrying out regimented series of steps, unlimited memory of every act a la Chinese “social credit” system.
People like Hawking who have one freakish skill—in his case the arcane mathematics of contemporary physics—are no more qualified for social commentary than someone whose great skill is dunking a basketball.

That is most comforting, Disestablishmentarian! I am going to strongly hold the hope that you are correct.

I might add that IMO those who are educated in the “social sciences” are no more qualified, either!
