***says we have all been programmed (mostly via movies, tv, video games ... visual media) and that we are powerless to deprogram ourselves***

It takes many forms: covert, subtle, overt. One subtle one that I pointed out to my son some time ago is the old movie favorite 'Its A Wonderful Life'. Note that the greedy banker, Mr. Potter, finds the monthly receipts and cash of the savings and loan good guys, including George Bailey, the president.

George has sacrificed his dreams and ambitions to serve the struggling middle class of Bedford Falls. The greedy Mr. Potter has tried to gain a financial hold over those same people.

Now Mr. Potter has, by windfall, gained the upper hand over George Bailey's long struggle to keep the down-trodden afloat despite the banker's timeless plots. Bailey faces ruin on Christmas Eve while Potter secretly holds the key to his deliverance - Bailey's own mislaid money.

Does the banker, Mr. Potter, have a change of heart and relent, do the honest thing to save his old rival, George Bailey? NO... instead the community of Bailey's friends, family, school mates, etc. come forth with enough small donations to save the day. Even the crusty old bank examiner is patiently tolerant of the questionable deal.

Well... all is well that ends well, OK? But wait! What became of the money that that greedy capitalist banker really stole from Bailey and his savings and loan? We never find out; but we are left with the impression that Mr. Potter just kept the money for himself. Thank goodness that when the whole community comes together - after all, It Takes A Village - the tyranny of greedy capitalism can be overcome.

OK, now I am the Grinch that stole Christmas here on FR. :^{ Look at the movie 'Unstoppable'. A train carrying extremely dangerous hazardous material is about to speed uncontrollably into a sizeable community where it could likely kill many people. When the railroad owner is notified on the golf course - not in his office staying on top of the situation - his response is, I hope this doesn't hurt our stock price.

Both of these films are good films to watch, well plotted and good acting. But be assured that those underlying subplots are not coincidental. They leave a lasting impression subconsciously on minds, especially young minds. The media schools teach this sort of thing.

I haven’t seen either movie. (I know, I know! But I do know “every time a bell rings ....” via osmosis from just being alive in the USA).

You make EXCELLENT points. But I thought you were going in a different direction with it. My take is not that that it’s a greedy capitalist banker, but that it’s a BANKER. It seems to me that one of the things Q/Trump are fighting against is the central bankers. Different from the hometown bankers, I think. Someone better versed in economics/banking - feel free to chime in here and educate me!

I’m not sure what Bailey’s job is, but presumably he is also a capitalist?

I think the villain here is not capitalism so much as evil. Greed. Dishonesty. Lack of empathy, compassion, and consideration for your fellow man.

Or am I being too defensive about capitalism?

Happy to have a friendly argument about this!

Thanks for the movie analyses.

Very interesting, I did see “It’s A Wonderful Life” but not the other one. So commiepukedom was influencing Hollywood way back when, of course it was.

I have watched hardly any movies and practically no tv so I am spared that type of brainwashing. I am thankful I never went to college like my commie sisters!
