Anyone else with a commercial account going through a "peak time" power usage audit this afternoon? I just got off the phone with them and I am pissed... Anyone else catch this scam?

According to the caller ID one time, I was calling myself. It turns out I work for the IRS and I was going to arrest myself if I didn’t pay up. Just a robo call or I might have had some choice words for them.

Ask them just what is that SSN?

They will say it is ‘privacy information.’

No, I called them directly off my bill. Two different reps refused to answer my questions and they were very aware of the event. And yes we have a smart meter, this is a scam from SoCal themselves they already know what everyone is using so why would they ask us to turn everything off on the hottest day so far this summer? So that they can set a “baseline” to charge us more if we go over this... It is a So Cal scam...

I got a couple of emails from them this week (put one of them below). One was about an event for today and the other one for Monday. I don’t have a smart meter. This is my home not a commercial place if that makes a difference.

Southern California Edison has scheduled a Critical Peak Pricing event for
Monday, 7/15/2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Please reduce your electric consumption during this peak period.

For more information, customers may contact their S C E Account Manager or
call 800-990-7788. Event information is also available at
www.sce.com/drp/events.

Please do not reply to this email; this is not a monitored email address.

OK so why? Why should we reduce just barely past the stone age? If they are testing peak time then usage should be normal right? Is this country so stupid that they would say “I can get by with only this much” so I will willingly pay more per Kw if I go over that?

Thank you for confirming I am not full of shit about this friend. :)

So then they are doing it to everyone residential and commercial... This stinks to high heaven because they didn’t send out a hard copy in the mail as required by law.

Nah, I was just joking about the spam calls we all get anymore and how I have called myself , according to the caller ID. Caller ID and a blocker are worthwhile.

They didn’t even call me, I had to find out from a neighbor and then call them to see what was up. Something is wrong with this whole situation.

Yeah, that’s weird. Some sort of automatic system that targets higher power users for an audit?

They are apparently hitting everyone residential and commercial on the hottest day of the summer so far and asking them to reduce their usage as much as possible for this “pricing event” so that they can set a “baseline” (stone age).

This is the most suspect thing I have had happen in the last 10 years for them. Not even a mail notice? They send us two for each meter in the mail when they have a planned repair outage, but not this? Something is amiss with this...

We are rural, We do not waste power or water here. No one has central heating or air and use swamp coolers, and propane in the winter. We do not have lawns or swimming pools. We do not waste at all and are very conservative.

Yet they make us “cost share” to pay for part of the glutenous city people during “peak” hours. They waste, we do not, yet we pay part of their bill because they do. Now they do this... “reduce to the stone age for us will ya?” “So that we can get a price fix.”

WHY...

Should I get a whole house generator for when it’s 115 and they shut the power off?

I can only say what happened with our water provider. We were sent a note to please reduce water usage, because drought. So we did. Rates were raised right afterward because we reduced water usage so much and they did not get the income anymore.

Hope this does not happen to you,

Why should we accept letting them shut it off at all? Municipal code states we cannot occupy a residence or building without power and hot water. Yet the power company can shut these off? They can ask us to shut them off? We are in noncompliance with local health code at that point.

Are we supposed to go get a motel room to be legal and complaint? Is Edison going to pay for this added cost and inconvenience of displacement from our own homes? What about the elderly and disabled? Those who need oxygen therapy? Home dialysis? The list goes on and on why they can never shut us off from this addiction they themselves and government created for us.

Just roll over and die at our own expense? Who will pay their profits then?
