Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo both skipped Wednesday’s funeral for retired NYPD Detective Luis Alvarez, who spent his dying days fighting for fellow first responders sickened by the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The notable absences came little more than a month after both officials were no-shows at a solemn, May 30 ceremony to dedicate a Ground Zero memorial to the 2,000-plus victims killed by exposure to toxins during the recovery effort.

Wherever these two amoral pieces of gutter trash go, malodorous skid marks mark their passing. They both pioneer new definitions of "low down dirty pieces of filth" with their every word and deed. Perhaps it was for the best that they did not pollute the memory of Mr. Alvarez by showing up; after all, they had better things to do that day: Cuomo taking the first ride on a new zip line ride at a state park, commenting on a mural in a Brooklyn state park and commenting on Trump's citizenship question on the upcoming census. DumblASSio probably had to sleep late and then work out at his gym. Maybe he scared up a groundhog or two to drop and kill, like he did to the Staten Island zoo's specimen.
