Fascinating topic there, Gen.
Here are some links about politicians who have changed their names:

Che Guevara is one of them too. Also President Grant, Malcolm X, Golda Meier, and Shimon Peres, among others.

Nikki Haley changed hers too:
“Haley’s full name is Nimrata Randhawa Haley. Upon entering the political arena, the governor told the Charlotte Observer that she shortened her name to Nikki because her maiden name “wouldn’t fit on a yard sign.””

Others are Ross Perot and Rick Perry.
I like your question about the name changes of celebs compared to regular Joes. That would be fun to know.
Thanks for adding to the post with more ideas.
So... I’m thinking that there are definitely 2 types of name changes.
1. to hide something
2. for reasonable and obvious reasons.
We are concerned with type 1 here, though I’m sure that many that fall into type 1 masquerade as type 2. So we need to be careful.
Reasonable reasons include:
1. getting married
2. being adopted (usually! but not if Cabal families are involved)
3. making your name easier to pronounce or spell or recognize - especially for actors/politicians, etc.
James Richard Perry to Rick Perry is not a stretch.
