The Queen today paid tribute to 'my generation' as she saluted the heroism of D-Day veterans at a 75th anniversary event attended by Donald Trump and world leaders including Theresa May, Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel and Justin Trudeau.

In a moving ceremony in Portsmouth 300 heroes who survived the invasion of France in 1944 were guests of honour and a group stood and saluted the thousands who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting Hitler's Germany on Normandy's beaches.

Mr Trump, who was accompanied by First Lady Melania, sat next to the Queen and Prince Charles and they smiled and chatted surrounded by the leaders of all the Allied nations who took part in Operation Overlord - the codename for D-Day.

The President read excerpts of a prayer, broadcast across the United States by his predecessor Franklin D. Roosevelt on the night of the D-Day invasion, before French President Macron rose to thank those who fought to liberate his country from Hitler's grip.

Mr Trump said: 'Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavour, a struggle to preserve our republic, our religion, and our civilisation, and to set free a suffering humanity.'

And the Queen paid tribute to the 'resilient wartime generation' - she called 'my generation' - and said: 'Seventy-five years ago, hundreds of thousands of young soldiers, sailors and airmen left these shores in the cause of freedom.

'Many of them would never return, and the heroism, courage and sacrifice of those who lost their lives will never be forgotten. It is with humility and pleasure, on behalf of the entire country - indeed the whole free world - that I say to you all, thank you.'

Merkel has no sense of embarrassment — look what she did to Germany in recent years.

Perhaps not. Merkel thoroughly destroyed Germany. What the Allies did not crush, Merkel did. She finished Hitler’s job.

Perhaps not. Merkel thoroughly destroyed Germany. What the Allies did not crush, Merkel did. She finished Hitler’s job with her muzzie divisions.

Totally agree. Outstanding presentation, like a well oiled stage production. Singing, huge screens in background, live orchestra and seemed like clockwork. The Queen’s bright pink outfit was amazingly stunning. She has smiled for days and days with the Trump’s visiting. She shows genuine respect for our great President, plus she is rightly extremely proud of her part in this 75 year celebration. That photo of her with the auto is amazing.

You are so right. One thing about this is the former Royals were dedicated totally to the country and it’s people. Queen Elizabeth was right in the thick of the war effort and IIRC the Royals stayed in London during the blitz. I stand corrected on that.......but Queen Elizabeth is still spry and probably holding on for dear life to keep that idiot Charles off the throne. These modern day Royals ain’t the Royals of old and I stand corrected if I shouldn’t capitalize Royals......;)

Excerpt:

The President said farewell and thanked her for his three-day state visit telling her: ‘It was a great honour to be with you” he was heard saying: ‘Great woman. Great, great woman’.

Her Majesty was heard saying back: ‘I hope you come to this country again’.

If she “finished hitler’s job” as you say, she’d be pro fascist (multiculturalism is the new fascism) and of course you’re right but we’re talking about leaders who opposed fascism as having credibility to be at the dedications. The original point was, she’s less qualified than Putin. I think that’s true.

There’s always deliberation and a pecking order with seating like that. Despite the media and their attempt to make this a highly negative thing with protestors, my impression is that there’s something of a full court press going on to win Trump over by the UK. Between the looming revelation of British intelligence interference in the 2016 election and Brexit, they are working very hard to cultivate Trump, although they can’t publicly admit that given the firestorm stirred up by the left and the media, but I repeat myself.

Don’t you agree that the beautiful Queen Elizabeth genuinely admires Pres. Donald J. Trump? With all the photos of them together, her smiles solidify this admiration.

Some things you just enjoy about this trip over seas. He represented our great nation in an excellent manner. Very proud of him. Thus he is seated next to the Queen.
